Renting student house, what should there be?
Hi, I had a search through the forum and couldn't find anything relevant, but if I have missed it please point me in the right direction. I have just moved in to my (3 bed) student house and I'm wondering what there should be from a legal perspective. For example, in our previous house, every room had a smoke alarm fitted.…

Thermostat not working - who pays for replacement/repair?
Good morning :) Hubby and I are tenants, and we have been living at our current address for almost 2 years (very happy with everything, no problems with the landlord whatsoever :) ), and we haven't had any problems with the property until now. We've recently noticed that the thermostat appears not to be working - it…

Moving house - moving Sky, BT, Pipex etc
When moving house, what's the cheapest thing to do with moving Sky, BT and Pipex (broadband)? All are currently in my partners name, so should we cancel current contracts, and then open new accounts at the new house in my name? Or should we tell each provider that we're moving, and let them transfer the accounts? Thanks

Extra day off work for house move
Has anyone else heard of this? It is probably just wishful thinking on my behalf but I'm sure that I heard this mentioned by our finance/HR person a while back. She hasn't said anything recently though (probably because two people, including me, are supposed to exchange in the next week). I work for a US company so this…

Now my solicitor is going on holiday!
Hi Just beginning to think that we may at last be making progress with our house sale and purchase, and now my solicitor tells me she is going on holiday on Friday for 2 weeks! It is a largish practice and apparently a locum will be taking over her duties. Does anyone know if a locum is likely to exchange contracts in her…

Open house
A house we may be interested in is having an 'Open house' on Saturday afternoon. What does this mean? Is it just a way to drum up business by the EA, or is there more to it - i.e. does it suggest the owners haven't had a lot of viewings and are getting desperate?

1 more quick question - Any idea where I can find information on short term letting
If I accept an offer I have assured my buyers I will move out ASAP. We'll try to hold things up as much as possible but if the house we are buying is in a chain etc we will need possibly a short term let. Anyone any advice on this in the Stockport/Manchester/Warrington area?

Offer in- slightly under the asking price
Hi- Just received an offer on my apartment which is 2.5K under asking price. The buyer is an FTB and lives with her parents so she has no chain (also means that her moving time is very flexible).
