Moving house - moving Sky, BT, Pipex etc

When moving house, what's the cheapest thing to do with moving Sky, BT and Pipex (broadband)?
All are currently in my partners name, so should we cancel current contracts, and then open new accounts at the new house in my name? Or should we tell each provider that we're moving, and let them transfer the accounts?
Thanks

If it was me I would cancel and start anew ,simply because there may be some incentives about for 'new' customers:D0

I'd let them transfer accounts then look around for a better deal if you wish.
At least that way you wont be tied into ANOTHER 12 month contract with each provider0 -
Sky have told me that aslong as there is a dish at your new home, then just plug the lead from the aerial into your digi-box. Otherwise, they charge £40 for installation of a new dish.0

That's the route I took with Sky. Everything worked but then we decided we wanted the dish to be moved so we called them, under the mover's package the call out charge was £40 instead of the usual £69. Had we started a new contract with Sky, it would have been free with a new box!
The best thing to do is not tell Sky you are moving, then whenever you need a callout cancel Sky and start again with a new subscription.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Hmmmmm, the issue I have with that is that we currently have Sky Multiroom, ie 2 boxes..... think the house we're going to only has the 1 box..... Looks like I'll be getting Sky out then!0 -
I just moved last month, and my broadband provider (monthly contract) wanted £50 to move my connection (or they would do it for free, but if I closed my account with them within 3 years they would charge me a portion of the £50). I didn't like that so I cancelled with them & signed up with a company providing free connection and a monthly contract, I also got my speed regraded to 5.5MB too!0

Always puzzles me when companies are so awkward like that..... surely they must realise you're going straight to one of their competitors?!0 -
Tread carefully with your pipex connection. BT told us they would do a simultaneous transfer of our phone & broadband connection (great!) however, when we called pipex they advised us that they will no longer do this because BT get it wrong every time. We eventually got a new supplier but if you want to stay with Pipex you need to give them a minimum of 10 days & check & double check that they are doingwhat they promise. Thanks to all who post comps :A :T0

Excellent, thanks for that - just the sort of info I'm after! :beer:0 -
B(loody) T(errible) took almost 3 weeks to enable my new DSL line when I moved. Don't cancel the Broadband as you will have to pay BT to get the line reactivated.
Contact Pipex and they should deal with BT for the move.
With regards to Sky, if you threaten to leave them they will come out for free.0
