Thanks the the OP of the thread on Northampton this gave me the idea to also ask:
Does anyone know of any nice area's around Stockport(yes I know there aren't that many) that will be a good place to bring up my two young children 10 months and 2/3! Schools are important as well as local ammenaties(spelt wrong i know, cant figure out). Would like somewhere nice near by to walk to in summer ie park or local shops. Most of stockport is full of takeaways and charity shops.
Hope I dont cause offense to anyone this is not intended. I just do not know the area and any advice would be gratefull!

My auty and cousin live in Heaton Chapel, it's very nice. Heaton Moor is a top place, nice restaurants, lovely houses. Generally very nice - quite expensive.0

Im born & raised round stockport.
Gatley, Cheadle, Heald green are all nice, cheadle hulme, wilmslow. handforth all quite nice as well. Bramhall if you can afford it.
Stockport stated to be the most "average place" in the UK, altohugh I cant find the report online now, but basically schools are broadly good, hospitals broadly good, id say very low crime. My parents are still going on about a car on thier estate ( commuter style estate) got broken into 2 years ago, and they think thats bad.
For raising a family,. you can do a hell of a lot worse than stockers. And also to say that you probably missed "to buy or not to buy" this AM, which was in Stockport. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
thanks this is so usefull, Id been thinking bramhall was bad due to being on the same map as Moss Side via streetmap(I think this is the one). Gatley as well, the name put me off. Will go see if repeat of TBONTB is on now!Saving needed to emigrate to Oz*September 2015*

Have you BEEN round Stockport? Personally I would go and have a look about before jumping to conclusions like this,
Personally speaking I think the Town Centre is the grimmest part of the area, outlying areas such as wilmslow, macclesfield, my personal fave Alderly edge or Styal, bramhall are absolutley lovely & real footballers wives territory.
I dont know what you can afford, maybe these places are out of your price range? Even on a very small budget theres no where in Stockport I wouldnt live or raise my kids. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Yes I have worked there for 3.5 years and spent a lot of time round there with friends etc. I work with a lot of people and unfortunatly have had quite a few horror stories recently of attack's, stealing and even worse for my friend unfortunatly. This is why I am very wary after all I am taking my children there. I work in a public enviroment and from what I see on a thurs fri evening the locals are more common and rough than where I live. Dont get me wrong there are a lot of nice people I deal with but some of the language and comments I see of 60% of our customers is appalling. I have had a drive round and do like the disley and cheadle areas but thought I would ask as there are a few places I cannot fathom out.
I need to be fairly close to the town centre but couldn't live there.Saving needed to emigrate to Oz*September 2015*
