Thanks for all your help, I cant believe how helpfull ppl are on here. You really are making a difference in helping me sort my head out. Both my OH and I feel like shattered just thinking about it 24hours a day. We are trying to up our budget to 150k so looking upto 165k(hopefully may get a bargain). I think location is more important than the house. We have decided it must be 3miles from the queensgate school in Bramhall so hazel grove, poynton and bramhall are possibilities. Looking also at Davenport as it didnt look too bad whilst driving through. Adswood is always going to be a very big NO. found a few in Poynton I like but have never visited there so will have to go this wednesday for some viewings.
Thankyou all!Saving needed to emigrate to Oz*September 2015*

Poytons lovely I think:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
It sounds a nice place, fingers crossed. Houses I can afford are not the prettiest things on the outside but spacious inside and lovely big gardens. I can imagine spending all summer in there. Its just a shame my kids birthdays are in winter else Id have a great big garden party!Saving needed to emigrate to Oz*September 2015*

It is very nice IMHO and the prices reflect it. I don't think though that you can live in Poynton and go to school in Bramhall, as Poynton isn't part of Stockport MBC for schools. Schools in Poynton (especially the high school IMHO) are perfectly OK. Someone correct me if I'm wrong pleaseI've never lived there, only going by what friends have said.

You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.

Think you might find that you have to live in the area of the school so up to 3 miles might be out of the question particularly if it is popular. Sorry but don't know that much about the schools in Bramhall but would think that they are all ok as are all of the ones in Hazel Grove.
Poynton is not in Stockport, it is part of Macclesfield so it would again probably not be possible to get easy access to Stockport schools as there are a different borough. ie different council etc. I would think that all schools in Poynton are fine though.0 -
Just had quick look on rightmove at properties to 170k in Bramhall and Poynton.
Most are ex LA. The ones in Bramhall that are ex LA are mostly on a road that I would probably avoid, probably the the only rough bit. The modern town houses/mews properties are better although I would imagine small. They are on a private housing estate.
Am less help with Poynton but again look like ex LA, if you look at the area you will probably get a feel for what its like. Poynton as a whole is quite nice although public transport links to Stockport, particularly buses are not brill.0 -
BobProperty wrote:I think one big decision will be the choice between living in the town or living out in the more rural surroundings like Chapel or Disley and putting up with the commuting. I'll see what other people say, but I think Chapel to the centre of Stockport will take about 25 mins normally and twice that at commuting times, for example.
Also, long term, I don't know about the quality or location of secondary schools in places like Chapel, Disley etc. and suspect that children living in some of these locations will have a long travel to school.
Chapel has good sized modern primary and high school, unsure of how good the schools are though. Journey times to Stockport are about right as mentioned by BobProperty. I commute to Alderley Edge daily and although it is a fair distance driving back into the countryside is a good way to de-stress.0 -
