Too late to change Solicitors/Conveyancers?

I made the foolish mistake of going with the solicitors the estate agent recommended.. mainly due to me being very naieve.

The only stage were at this moment is that memorandums of sales have been sent to all parties with our current solicitors details.

We have not yet paid ANY money to the solicitors although they do have an account set up with our instruction.

HOWEVER, we have a mortgage offer which has the solicitors details on.. are lenders ok to change details or is this something they charge for?

We want to change due to costs.

For a Sale and Purchase were looking at just over £1,700 (inclusive of VAT+Disbursements)

Anyone else changed solicitors after mortgage offer and memorandums of sales have been completed?

HELP

Many Thanks.

Get a quick quote from these guys... http://www.conveyancingwarehouse.com/

They have been excellent for me so far... (there are other threads about them).

CW are very cheap so assume them to be the rock bottom price.... does it vary much from what you have been quoted.... £1700 does seem expensive to me but it depends on a lot of factors.
  • Don't assume the ones the estate agent recommended aren't competitive - aftewr getting quotes, we went with the ones our estate agent recommended and they ahve been great so far - their fees are 595+VAT for our sale (leasehold) and 545+VAT for our purchase, plus then stamp duty, search fees and all the other rubbish. Probably isn't far off your figure.
But, to answer your other question, last time we bought a place we ahd to change solicitors halfway through due to big problems with the first lot we chose. We simply told them we didn't want their survices any more, asked them to send all details to our new solicitors and paid the fees dfor their time so far. Then of course, we had to pay the new lot too. I think some of it overlapped and we certainyl ended up paying more than if we'd just stuck with one lot, but it was certainly possible to do.
