Hot water cyclinder in loft
Hi I have a unvented 250 ltr hot water cyclinder located in the loft next to the system boiler which is programmed to heat the water 30 mins in the morning and again late in the afternoon at 60c. The issue I am finding is by early afternoon and late in the evening the water isn't as hot heat and sometimes requires a boost.…

Ufh vs replacing my radiators?
So The radiators in this house are likely over 20 years old Given that, I'm not sure whether it'd be worth getting new radiators, or getting ufh. I'm going to have to pay up anyway :( My heating is via gas currently too

Solar Panel Installations
Late to the boat, but has anyone installed solar panels recently? Really not into anything DIY and the most basic googlefu points to the likes of EON and other big energy companies or the old "rent-a-roof" scheme. Any pointers when it comes to the types of panels, if I need a battery etc, good companies to recommend or…

Are these good quality components? Shouldn't there be one…

I'm Eligible for Fully Funded PV up to £10K & Replacement Boiler
Hi all! I have just discovered I am eligible for a PV and / or hybrid ASHP installation, fully funded up to £10k via the current Green Homes Grant scheme, available in conjunction with the government, local authorities and E.ON. I'm currently awaiting contact from nominated installers. I have been informed I would fully…

Octopus agile outgoing
I'm just waiting for my G98 which I've been told will be done by Friday this week at the latest. I can then submit everything to join outgoing tariff. How long does it take on average once you press submit to when you're 'accepted' and can start getting paid for what you put back into the grid

FIT Deemed to Export or Opt Out
Hi I’ve read a few threads on this already but can’t seem to find what I’m looking for. We were fortunate enough to have 15 PV panels installed on our house before the government stopped their 25 year guaranteed index linked FIT payment scheme in Oct 2011. So we get around 60p per kWh back currently. We’ve just had a…

Efficiency of gas radiators?
So, I know that I won't necessarily get an exact answer here, however is there anyway of measuring efficiency of gas radiators? My boiler is 93% efficient, however I'd hazard a fuss that most radiators are 15 years old at the the very least, with ones in the attic being at least 11 years old The house is very well…

Looking to get solar again
Hi In 2005 I purchased a 4kwh solar system with no batteries. It cost £4.9k and when I moved out 2021 I had probably made around 3.5k meaning a payback period of around 8 years. The majority of benefit was fit payments. I have been quoted 11k for a 4kwh system with 5.6kwh battery2×2.8kwh, another is similar price Annual…

Solar Quote - thoughts
Hi - I have had quite a few quotes recently to get solar panels on my roof. Some have bothered have got back to me and some have not. Some have been extortionate as well taking advantage of current demand I guess. Anyway I have sort of boiled it down to potentially this system - price is just under £13k. What are people's…

Lead times on solar and battery as well as price increases
Back in March 2022, I paid the a 10% deposit for a 5 panel solar 2kWp and 15kWh home storage battery system install by a solar MCS installer . At the time I was told the lead time was 8 to 12 weeks. However, due to supply shortages I've been continuously been informed of delayed delivery of parts because the suppliers have…

Distances questions .....
Good afternoon, I am going to have the inverter and batteries in my garage. It currently looks like an AJ array of panels, a Solis inverter and some Pylontech either US300 or US500 batteries. The issue is that I have my consumer unit in one half of my double garage and I would prefer to have the batteries some 25 feet away…

Dehumidifiers
Newspapers are full of pseudo-scientific articles promoting humidifiers as part of the current energy conscious world however their is little solid reasoning and I don't know if dehumidifiers are worth it for people without respiratory illnesses. I get a bit of damp in my house, which is especially noticable if we go away…

Inverters
Good morning all. Another question from a trainee pv'er! I'm receiving quotes at the moment and I have a question about inverters. 1. If a quote includes an inverter that is a 5.0 KW (GivEnergy 5.0) does this imply that a G99 will have to be applied for and given? Does the 5k give me a worthwhile amount of power over a…

Batteries
In Southern England facing due south with an annual usage of around 7000kwh and a 6k’ish array with for the sake of simplicity normal hourly spread of usage hourly - as a “finger in the air” - what would be the maximum battery storage that one should consider as practically usable, budgetary considerations largely ignored…

Smart meter apps showing solar export, hugo, bright & loop?
Just wondering if anyone with solar had tried one of these smartmeter monitoring apps like hugo, bright and loop? You see them on TV. Do they show your export data from the smart meter? Or do you just get consumption? Thanks

Ecoegg laundry products
Bagged at local car boot sale last weekend - two Ecoegg products all boxed and complete. These were on two totally different stalls and were bought out of curiosity really. At home they turned out to be for 864 and 720 washes respectively at a cost of £2 and 50p. Based on the 3 washes I do a week that is 10 years of…

Yet another Solar installation quote post!
Sorry, there seems to be a lot of these, and I have read through a bunch of them to get a consensus of every quote is unique! So far I have two quotes for a PV installation, where I am looking at panels + battery. My daily usage is around 10-12kWh, and I home work so can use the energy at the point of generation for the…

DNO request
My solar panels have been fitted and already generating quite a bit. I have my MCS - i have been informed that the email regarding the DNO has been sent. Does anyone know generally how long these are taking to get a response. Obviously i need before I can sort an outgoing tariff.
