Octopus Billing Twice Monthly and DD Amount?
Hi, I have been with Octopus for more than a year. Have always had a SMETS1 smart meter. Since the start of 2022, they have been billing twice per month. Granted no days are overlapping but I have a fear of seeing debt on my energy accompany. Probably goes back to my childhood when my parents are always 'in the red' with…

Shell Energy 'can't find' my Pure Planet Credit
I switched from Pure Planet to Utility Point on the 10/08/2. One month later on the 14th of September Utility Point ceased trading and I was advised I was moving to EDF. PP were still trading at this point but my switch wasn't finalised before they too went bust. I didn't receive my final bill from PP until 1/12/21 showing…

This Can't be Right!
I've just worked out my new gas & electric unit costs having given my meter readings. I'm pretty sure Scottish Power have made a huge error! My electricity has increased by 275% per unit! My gas has increased by, wait for it...531%! Surely this isn't legal is it? A miscalculation by Scottish Power or I'm being taken for a…

Will £60 a month be enough for prepayment metre for 1 person?
I'm moving out of my shared accommodation to live alone for the first time. I've never had bills other than phone bills in my name. The flat i'm looking at renting only has prepayment metres. I will also be working from home. The rent is £400 for a studio flat, all electric and has a C EPC rating. I'm thinking of only…

What does "our reading" mean on EDF Enegry bill
I am trying to understand an EDF Energy bill that I have been presented with. Where the electric meter readings are there is text "OUR READING" Does this mean they have read the meter or it is an estimate? I suspect that latter as the building is a sports pavillion, which is generally un occupied.

Help with electricity meter
My 92 year old mother in law is currently paying roughly £500 a month through Eon on elec. She lives on her own in a bungalow and we have been trying to contact Eon to come look at the meter as this figure cannot be right. Eon came to fit a smart meter a while ago but said they couldn't do it as it was a three way meter…

British Gas charging more than the price cap?
I got punted onto British Gas after the Peoples Energy went bust and so I am on the people's energy tariff. But I have noticed that I am getting charged more than the price cap. I am getting charged 29.322p per kWh and 55.696p per day standing charge for electricity and 7.727p per kWh, 32.032p per day for gas. I thought…

Bigswitchoff3
Why is Bigswitchoff not being promoted by any MSE or media outlets ?. I can't believe people are willing to just keep paying whilst the energy companies make record profits . This is a peaceful protest which can make a difference if enough people take part . Next one is Friday 8.00 pm for 10 mins . Then daily .…

issue with 'Ofgem' triggered move from Together Energy to British Gas
A heads-up/warning to others... My former energy supplier, Together Energy, went into administration and my supplier was moved to British Gas. When I got my first bill from British Gas I was shocked by the bill. On closer examination it appeared that during or part of the transfer the type of gas meter had changed to an…

Eon charging more than the price cap
My Eon electricity tariff is due to end in a few weeks so I will be moving to their "Next Flex" tariff as it's my cheapest option at the moment. When reviewing the rates they charge for this tariff I noticed their daily standing charge is advertised as 48.53p / day, but according to Ofgem's website the price cap for the…

Back-billing rules
I moved into a property on 15th March 2021, the energy company at the time sent me a quarterly bill which covered February to April. I spoke to them on the 13th April to close the account and advise the date I moved in. I told them I would pay the energy used from the date I moved in if they send me a revised bill- which…

Electricity meter "lifespan" before replacement due
I've looked around and seen different figures for the life of meters depending on the type of meter (5 years, 10 years, ....), and then there seem to be people to this day with 30 year old etc meters getting replaced. For instance my "dumb" key fob prepayment electricity meter is currently 11 years old, I'm wondering when…

Were bills graded in the 1950s?
I remember in the 1950s my dad ranting about our household energy usage and how he blamed the plentiful numbers of lights bulbs available since the war. The first so many units cost x amount. The next so many units cost slightly less. The final amount of units cost the least. My dad called that the millionaires rate and he…

Cost of gas pilot light on boiler
Perhaps an interesting discussion or not? Checked my gas usage, and my pilot light uses just under 3 units a day. I use my boiler maybe 2-3 times a week to heat water. I didnt realise a boiler sitting idle consumes that much gas. So this is about £7 month excluding SC and excluding VAT. Add the SC as well which is another…

Claiming PFP refunds via British Gas
Does anyone know any contact phone numbers for British Gas where you do eventually get to speak to a human. PFP owed me a credit from February 2021. Despite them confirming it was owed and twice in writing telling me it will be refunded to a given bank account, they still didn't manage to follow through with it. I seem to…

Meter Reading and KWh
Why don't meter readings and units used equate exactly to KWh used. I find that each unit on different quarterly bill can be 31.75, 31.91 0r 32.08 KWh for each unit - why? 21/01/2022 6427 6271 kWh 27/10/2021 6228 1584 kWh 09/08/2021 6178 2875 kWh 21/04/2021 6087 7582 kWh 20/01/2021 5847 6223 kWh 09/11/2020 5648 3176 kWh…

Electricity wholesale cost
I’m currently with outfoxthemarket (since 2018) who have been very good with their service and prices. They market themselves as providers of 100% renewable electricity which is one of the main reasons we have stuck with them. Here’s the kicker - the cost to produce renewable energy hasn’t really changed much as far as my…

Is heating the home to 18oC the new 20oC?
So, like many others we are preparing ourselves for Oct/Nov when the ASHP has to be heat more than just hot water. Now I still have a lot of learning to do on our Mitsubishi Ecodan as it was here when we moved in so lots of reading to so I suspect to make sure we run it as efficiently as possible over winter. But to get…
