Help with electricity meter
Options
My 92 year old mother in law is currently paying roughly £500 a month through Eon on elec. She lives on her own in a bungalow and we have been trying to contact Eon to come look at the meter as this figure cannot be right. Eon came to fit a smart meter a while ago but said they couldn't do it as it was a three way meter and someone more qualified would have to do it..since then heard nothing. Where do we go from here?, she cant go on paying this amount and simply will not be able to pay this amount, with the price hike beginning of April God knows what it will rise to. Any suggestions would be greatly received

What is her tariff called ?
Do you read her meters for her and give them to Eon? |If not Eon will be guessing - possibly too high (hopefully)
PS Lisa you've actually posted under LPG etc - fingers crossed MSE will move it to EnergyNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Yes we always read her meter and Eon say they are correct, suppose they will be but if meter wrong readings will be wrong which seems to be the case. Cant get anywhere with Eon coming to look at meter. I'm new to this so hope it gets posted to right place 😉0

Give us the meter reads from about 12 months ago please and todays.
I suspect you have three registers to read.

Have you authority to speak to Eon on behalf of your MIL ? A letter signed by your MIL will suffice or do you already have LPA ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

I also live in a bungalow. It is all electric but heated by a heat pump which means I pay about one third of what I would for other forms of electric heating. My monthly direct debit (from Eon.next) has recently been increased to £225. If I used electric fan heaters or radiators I could be paying close to 3 times that amount, which would be over £600 per month.
My heat pump has its own electricity meter so I can compare the amount of electricity used for heating with my total electricity use. This comparison gives me no reason to think that my meter is reading incorrectly.Reed0 -
We've moved this to the main Energy boardOfficial MSE Forum Team member. Please use the 'report' button to alert us to problem posts, or email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

@Lisa52 if you read the meter do you have a year ago reading so you can safely predict the yearly usage on electricity. How many kWh is that?
Secondly check that EON have not placed your mum on an expensive fix rate
Once we know yearly Electricity usage we can roughly calculate what the DD should be.
It's also good to check the account is not in debit0
