British Gas talking silly when I wanted to reduce my DD
I am two months into my fixed BG tariff, s/c for gas and elect 43p a day, elec 32p kwhour. I started out at £48 a month DD but have turned the gas off at the meter so that is only the s/c and have radically reduced my electric use from around 3kw a day to 1.2kw a day, the result that the bills are now £20-£25 a month. This…

Remaining Credit On Removed Prepayment Meter
In January 2022, British Gas replaced my prepayment meter with a credit meter. I had more than £10 remaining on the meter when the gas engineers came to replace it. I took a time/date stamped photo as evidence of the credit shortly before the engineers arrived. After the work they gave me a form with the final meter…

Fuel tariff
I don't really understand how the fuel price cap works. I currently have a dual fuel tariff with British Gas that expires at the end of this month, should I opt for a new tariff or go with the standard variable rate for now?

How is my energy usage normal?
Hello all! As we are all acutely aware, energy prices are currently crippling the nation! It has however made me look really closely at my own energy consumption and question everything! I have gone from paying £215 a month for combined energy in 2020 to now paying a whopping £670 a month being with EDF- transferred from a…

Why oh why has the daily standing charge risen by over 100%
I can understand that energy prices have risen, still can't really understand why we in the UK are paying double the unit cost that French consumers pay. What really gets me is the more than doubling of the daily standing charge, to over 45p per day. How do energy companies justify this? The cables are the same size,…

Compulsory meter reading while on a smart meter
Hi, my girlfriends mum has been on smart meters with British Gas for over 5 years. Today someone came to visit, called her by her her name and insisted on taking meter readings, saying that they needed to be checked every so often. Is this a normal thing, or should we be worried that she's been scammed in some way and need…

Hi, I have a fridge-freezer. Only using the fridge part really as not much in the freezer (but can't turn freezer part off obviously). Discrepancy in gas charged vs meter reading on prepayment or is it just my bad maths?
This may well be due to me making a stupid maths mistake but here goes... We went away for two weeks and turned off the heating and hot water. We are with Utilita PrePayment and topped up just before end of March. The Updated Prices email stated that prices were rising to: First 2kW per day = 25.806p (matches with 09 on…

Gas or Electric heating and water
This used to be a no brainer but... British gas standing charge for gas is now 27.22p per day... which equates to £99.35 for a year. The gas boiler is our only gas appliance. It's a relatively new combi boiler which is quite efficient. The hot water part of the system is absolutely fine but we've just been told our very…

Energy bill goes from £80 a month to £650
My monthly cost has risen from £80cm to £650pcm. I don’t understand the price cap of 54%. Based on 54% I expected a max bill of roughly £120-130pcm. This is over a 600% rise. I’m with Bulb, on Direct debit. Any advice appreciated.
