Unvented Hot Water Cylinder and Boiler Controls to save energy
Wonder if someone knowledgable could help me please. I work at home in a upstairs room so need good setting for 24/7, I have elderly parents living with me too so have to be mindful of them too when they are downstairs. My plan is to boost the heating for 1 hour up to 21.5 degrees then drop it to come on if it drops below…

Ready Meals - More Energy Efficient/Economical?
During an over-the-fence garden chat with my elderly neighbours this afternoon, they raised an interesting point about whether it was more economical and energy efficient to go for simple ready meals that you nuke in the microwave compared to cooking a traditional meals in the electric oven? Up until a few days ago they…

How much gas does your boiler use in the first hour of use?
So when it is flat out from cold my old non condensing boiler uses 12.3/11.2 and 9.6 kwh in the first hour on settings 5,4 and 3 on my 1 to 6 settings? Is this a lot compared to new boilers? After the first hour it reduces a lot, to be clear this is all before the house reaches its set temperature.

Prepayment IHD Alternative
Hello, My parents are currently with british gas and their IHD seems to have failed, however british gas won't replace the unity due to it being over 12 months. The meter is in a very tricky location and it's not easy to get to it in order to check the current credit on the meter, and so they relied almost entirely on the…

SMETS1 meter faulty, BG cancelled my upgrade appt and now cant submit any readings, no new appts :-(
This is actually giving me anxiety as after 2 hours on live chat to BG, they have no new engineer appointments to arrange my meter upgrade. Gas seems to be fine, but electric got a mind of its own and used to be around a reading of 25000 but now regularly goes to zero and now sat around 261.876. Its a Landis Gyr 470. Im…

WARNING - You DON'T have much time - EDF may overcharge if you don't respond by 3 April !
Surprise, surprise, EDF admit that they experienced technical issues with their website which prevented customers submitting readings on 31 March. If you missed the midnight deadline (the EDF system does not allow you give the date of the reading), EDF will have estimated the 31 March readings and applied your readings to…

Got a clip, just need a router, maybe
Goes without saying that we're all taking a keen interest in our 'leccy usage now the bills are going up... I already have a 'clip-on CT current sensor' and am looking for an inexpensive way to monitor my electricity usage. The sensor I have sends to a basic display I received from a previous supplier, over 5 years ago and…

A problem with our smart meter
A few years ago we were with Bulb Energy & had their smart meter fitted. I liked the fact it gave us our current live electricity usage so I could see how much we saved by switching things off, however it is not able to do the same with the gas usage. The best we get is a "so far today" reading. My neighbour has just had…

Old BG Smart Meter showing wrong readings. engineer visit for today cancelled an hour before arrival
Hi folks, absolutely fuming here.. I have a smets1 meter that is rubbish. A few months ago the Elec reading went back to 0 a week after an engineer visit to improve the SMETS1 communication box, which wasn't even successful. Booked another engineer appt a month ago for today to upgrade to SMETS2. Just had a text cancelling…

My rise 300% edf energy
I understand my bill was £23.70 a month.. EDF have since upped the payment to £70.00 a month, very nearly trebled it.. I am in the middle of a two year fixed rate with them.. Following on from Martin's advice, I have messaged them asking why has my direct debit nearly trebled. I await their reply. Dave aka mrplatypus

Anyone here feel like their energy direct-debit payments are being front-loaded?
Hi all, I've just gone into bat with my energy provider to try to understand the discrepancy between my direct debit forecast estimates and theirs. After stating that they were not factoring-in any October 2022 price cap rises into their estimates, they told me their current estimates of my future usage over a 12 month…

Fixed rates for existing customers - what's on offer?
My supplier, British Gas, is currently offering a fix until end of April 2023. Rates are 32.972p per Kwh / standing charge 50.23p for electricity (sorry I don't have gas so don't know the gas tariff). This compares with BG's post-Apr 1 price cap rates of 27.627p/44.7p here in the East Mids. What are other suppliers…

Help please as I’m panicking
I’ve posted this in several places so apologies if you see it more than once. I haven’t posted for a long time for various reasons including family issues and health. And I haven’t been dealing with my debt it seems. I have been scared stiff today by my energy provider informing me that from my usual price of £1560 a year…

Renewable energy owner organisation(s)
Hi all, As per title, I am searching for organisations who represent or consist of owners of renewable energy (solar pv, heat pump, wind etc.) who may or may not be receiving Feed-In-Tariffs (FITs) from the energy companies (FIT Licensees). For clarification I don't mean HIES, RECC or any other organisations that's to do…
