When to change supplier
Hi I have been with Scottish power past few years and currently on the fixed price january 2016 tariff. As it's coming to an end I have been comparing prices and it looks like I could save quite a bit by moving suppliers. I've never changed suppliers before so I'm a bit unsure of the process. If I signed up with someone…

my landlady has to have all the lights on at all times, in the lounge she also has two of those string of lights that you can hang from the corners of the room, various candles, which are irrelevant I know but she either has no idea or intention to save herself a fortune I did suggest switching energy supplier but the…

Hello all. Moved to a new three bed house which is pretty big and before my energy supplier which I was in contract with came over I had to pay for the usage between this time to the current provider. So I gave the meter readings on Jan 2nd and for the period of Dec 19th to Jan 1st have been sent a bill for £117. This is…

Refunding credit after switching suppliers
Could anyone tell me if there is a requirement for energy companies to refund credit balances within a certain timescale when switching suppliers? We switched from Extra Energy in November as they didn't provide a bill, estimated our usage and then increased our monthly direct debit by 200% - without telling us. As a…

Absurdly high electricity bill
Hi guys I moved into a two bed flat around a year ago, totally electric with storage heaters, immersion boiler with an economy seven tariff with npower. I lived with a friend. The monthly bill was £83. I was a bit lax with meter reading throughout the year. Fast forward to a year later and I get a letter saying I'm £1600+…

At what point do you like your heating?
Similar to the official questions but its less to do with money saving and actual comfort. I for example don't have heating on except when needed so can be freezing then put on heating feel hot quite quickly but if I turn it off I feel freezing again quickly, if I last a few hours with heating on I can turn it off and have…

Npower billing problems
Are NPower having billing problems again? Is it a large widespread problem or just me? I get a message when I log in. I don't blame them if it just my account that has a problem, as there have been 2 changes over this billing period. They issued a bill and then reversed it. I will study it to see if there is an issue.

British Gas to offer 5th Time of Use Tariff
OFGEM has issued a derogation which allows BG to have a 5th electricity tariff specifically for customers with a smart meter. The tariff will be based on time of use kWh charges. https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/sites/default/files/docs/decision_-_bg_derogation_from_slc22b2bi_redacted_version_30_11_2015.pdf The link is playing up…

Cheap Energy Club
Hi I signed up to the British Gas deal and the switch happened smoothly but regrettably I was put on a standard tariff despite having an email from BG detailing the cheap Energy Deal. Naturally I complained and still nearly two months later they are still trying to resolve the issue! Yesterday I had a letter saying that on…

Have we been ripped off by Utility Warehouse?
We just switched from Utility Warehouse to First Utility after at least ten years of paying by monthly direct debit. We were almost £130 in credit but when the account was closed we only got £75 back as they said we'd been paying the account in arrears? I'm very doubtful of this as usually you pay monthly direct debits up…

800 kWh/month 1 bedroom flat?
Hi Everyone! Moved to a 1 bedroom flat, electricity only (no gas), 2 adults - both professionals. On average, 800 kWh/month use (with current supplier ~75 GBP/month) Is this normal? Some tell me that this is very high consumption for a 1 bedroom flat. If not normal, what could be the reason? Thanks in advance, AL
