Scottish power tarrifs
Options
I am currently on SP Online fixed price energy March 2016 and see that they have a replacement - Online fixed price energy January 2017 but I can't see the historic rates anywhere on SP website to compare them..
According to their "your gas and electricity quote" page - I can save £132 pa if I switch - but I thought that all suppliers were supposed to inform all customers automatically if they can save by switching tariffs ?
I was not..
So - should I change tariffs now or not ?
I am on dual fuel and my bill is £38 per month

The best thing you can do is bung your annual kWh use figures into one of the comparison sites and see what your annual cost comes out at compared to current cost. Ignore any savings figures given by both the supplier and comparison site as they are often misleading. The information about better tariffs is usually given either on line or a bill and not "as it happens" by letter / e-mail.0

Are not the Match 2016 rates on your bill ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

scottish power has the kwh and the standing charges on the bills they issue, so you will be able to get your existing tariff costs from there (as it tells you the units used x cost per unit).MFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0

Try to work out your annual kwh figures and bung them into a comparison site as others have suggested above.
The latest tariff should be cheaper than your March 2016 tariff (although I think that was slightly better on electricity if I remember).
I will also point out that with Scottish power there is no penalty for tariff hopping to another Scottish Power energy tariff. You can switch at any time. I have changed onto the latest Scottish power tariff each month a new one has come out (as it has usually been a cheaper tariff or stayed the same).
For example you could have switched back in November to their Nov 2016 fix as that was the same as the current Jan 2017 fix.
These days, if your not locked in and there is no penalty for tariff hopping with the same company, you need to check on a monthly basis if there is a new cheaper tariff with the same company.
Switching with the same company is usually immediate.0 -
I found the march 17 elec dearer and the gas cheaper. But if i move the gas i will lose dual fuel discount. I will have the warm discount at end of my march 16 fix so i will have to stay till then. I will keep on looking at any new tariffs. I hope price's will start to slide down again.0

OP, you should find your current Tariff details on your latest bill. I recently switched to Jan 17 tariff at SP. You should check every month, it is very competitive.
