I currently have my electricity with scottish power and I was £46 in credit on my last bill and I'm on the standard monthly direct debit plan paying £30 a month. I have my gas with british gas and I was in £126 debit on my last bill and think thats also…

British Gas Tariff Change Confusing
Hi, I have just switched my British Gas tariff online to the "Online Variable November 2013" tariff. However when i view my account it says i am on the "Clear & Simple" tariff. Further more it is quoting my unit rates as if I am paying by cash/cheque when i am actually paying by fixed monthly direct debit. Even more…

Npower increase my monthly bill by over 40%
Just received a new notice of my monthly bill from the money grabbers at npower. They are increasing my monthly bill for electricity from £67 a month to £95, an increase of over 40%, despite my last statement showing I was in credit by £25.56. I know prices have recently gone up but this was reported in the media to be in…

Should Suppliers with rep status be asked to add a customer charter to cover MSE?
Should Suppliers with authorised reps be asked to add a customer charter that they will abide by in the MSE forum? It seems that currently there are inconsistencies between how Suppliers use MSE and some don't seem to respond to all threads from their customers. This makes them of limited benefit and doesn't feel inline…

SSE changed my tariff
SSE have changed my gas tariff without any notification or any request to change tariff from me. Are they allowed to just change the tariff without telling me first? The first time I noticed this was on receiving my quarterly bill - it had been changed around a week before that. They have moved me from a tariff with no…

£350 electricity bill for 34 days in a new flat (details inside)
Hello, I moved into a new flat early in October in a new location. Regrettably I did not take meter readings on the first day. I am with Npower. They sent me a bill earlier this week which they have stated is based on actual readings. My question is: is this a fault? I intend to pick up a meter key on Tuesday [one was not…

Misleading advertising lying to consumers? Fix it!
http://www.asa.org.uk/Rulings/Adjudications/2009/6/Simple-Heating-Solutions/TF_ADJ_46363.aspx is a decision by the advertising standards agency that a misleading advert cannot be run again. (This one was against a 'Slash your heating bills with our expensive german peak-rate heaters) The ASA does generally not seek out…

They're 'Setting up the Utilities for me'
Hi everyone, I'm about to move into a rented house, and the estate agent has told me that my information will be passed to a company called Hallmark, (found at *companyname*corporate.co.uk) who will arrange my utilities for me. (This was automatic and was mentioned only in a confirmation letter - no opt-out) On the face of…

Economy 10 electricity
Hi all, I was wondering if any of you are on economy 10, and have any tips on how it works and which companies will quote for it? I don't think I can use comparison sites for it. I've spoken to British Gas, but they said they only do economy 7. I'm with npower just now. My new flat has old night storage heaters (no gas in…

British Gas Credit Check Warning
Please be aware that British Gas Credit Check will give you a lower score than you actually have. This means that even with a good score of over 907 when you check your report, you will be told by them your score is lower. I believe this is to keep customers on a prepaid meter and having to pay higher charges!!

Scottish Power Dilemma.
On the 26th September I signed up with Scottish Power, as B. Gas price increase was unacceptable to me. All went well, a couple of minor queries cropped up, and all were answered by David the rep. on here from S. Power. I can't praise him enough. I eventually received the email informing me that I was now a S.P. customer.…

The SAP anti competition argument
I thought it might be useful to approach this using a thought experiment. Imagine for a moment that you are one of six friends. Two of your friends have recently bought expensive new cars. Their old cars weren't broken down but they were old and not really up to current requirements. One spent 20,000 one spent 50,000 for…

Meter Plus
I have just received a voicemail from Meter Plus, they inform me that they have an appointment to fit a new meter next week. They leave a number 0800 007 010 to call on if I wish to contact them. As they give a window of 8am-6pm I do need to contact them as that is just too wide. It was a blocked number that called me.…
