getting charged standing charge for gas but meter not connected

hi

I recently had a new gas connection installed in September but at this moment in time I am still waiting for British Gas to connect me to the gas supplies.

British Gas had already installed the meter but for some odd reason did not connect me to the supplies.

i had my first bill today from British Gas with a meter reading of 0000
but a standing charge of £18.00

I understand if I was connected to the gas supplies I would be charged a standing charge regardless if i use my gas or not BUT i am not connected to the supplies BUT STILL CHARGED!

just like to know if anyone can give me any feed back?

No probs , just switch to a "no standing charge " tariff. with this tariff you pay the standing charge as you use gas, zero use will equal zero standing charge. BG do this tariff. Would be nice if BG informed you of this tariff. Maybe they will be obliged to let people know under the new rules supposed to be coming out to inform customers about the cheapest tariffs

Are you a business or on pre-pay, if so this is normal
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • i am on a pre pay meter but i am not connected to the service, i shouldn't be charge a standing charge until i am connected.

BG no longer offer 'Standard tariff' to new customers, all new customers have a tariff with a standing charge and a single rate for each kwh used. The standard tariff now being 'Clear & Simple'.

The cheapest of these tariffs is 'Online Variable November 2013' which means a customer has to pay by DD and get bills online.

If a customer does not want to/is not able to do this then the cheapest is 'Discount Variable November 2013'.

Both have cancellation fees which we all know would be waived in the event of a price rise (if correct processes are followed).

If the meter has not been connected to the mains supply I would say there is a very good case for a zero bill as there is no supply. If there is a supply but the appliances have not been connected then the customer is liable to pay the standing charge.

I suspect that NSC tariffs will disappear soon.

Not if Ebico have anything to do with it ;)

Even if they have to declare a daily standing charge of 0.0p per day in order to satisfy some ill conceived rules. :)
