Scottish Power Dilemma.
On the 26th September I signed up with Scottish Power, as B. Gas price increase was unacceptable to me. All went well, a couple of minor queries cropped up, and all were answered by David the rep. on here from S. Power. I can't praise him enough.
I eventually received the email informing me that I was now a S.P. customer. (I had submitted my meter reads of course).
I logged in to my customer page, and just happened to note that there was a mistake in the number of my house. I contacted David informing him of this, and he said there had been some kind of mistake and that I would have to wait yet ANOTHER six weeks to be moved over to them!!!
Obviously I am not at all happy about this, especially as I will have been moved to B. Gas Standard Tariff!
I have no idea how this mistake could have happened, MAYBE I did click on the wrong house number when applying though I very much doubt it.
Even so, shouldn't they have picked up the mistake from the gas meter/number, or my name? and what will have happened to the poor people at the other house! will they get 2 bills?
This mistake is going to cost me obviously, is there anything I can do?
David is asking for the original application.............what this will show I don't know.
Any suggestions anyone?

This is known as an erroneous transfer. The transfer request from scottishpower is based on the address on the application. There is a number of tell tail signs when suppliers pick up the wrong address. The meter numbers do have a part to play, but if they have taken over someone with the same type of meter it will pass validation, if they tried to someone who has a pre payment meter and you have signed for direct debit it will come up as a mismatch and require manual checking. However, sometimes it can be a few months after you think you have trx over to that the error has shown up.
If you made the application yourself then you have a part to play in this (sorry), however some supplier do random calls to new customers and on these call they should be checking the address etc. I shocked that this guy did not check the address with you before hand.
As far as the person they have taken over they will be sent back to the supplier they came from as if they have never left them, they will also get a letter to tell them of the error.
Suppliers do have a standard of service and this is should still come under it, which you may be compensated for this, but this is not a large payment maybe enough for a few pints!!
You can ask BG to back date your tariff as gesture of good will but wont hold out on it, but no supplier will compensate you for any increased tariff that you have defaulted on to due to this error.
Hope this helps0 -
Keenang,
Thank you for your reply. I am not looking for compensation as such, BUT I don't see why I should be out of pocket because of this "erroneous transfer"
I wonder just how many times this happens.
P.S. (Are you David by any chance?lol)When man sacrifices the Love of POWER for the Power of Love, there will be peace on earth.0
