What date should I switch?
I'm currently on a fixed tariff contract that expires on the 31/3/2012. I've been in touch with moneysupermarket and they said to to switch to the new supplier no more than 12 days before the end of the contract just to be sure I don't have to pay an exit fee. Is this correct? Or should I actually wait until it's full…

My current 'plan' is about to end, I know I am paying over the odds as I have the EON SaveOnline 5 tarriff. I have done some shopping around on the money supermarket sites etc and have got some slightly better quotes, but when I look at the reviews for the other utilities companies there are some dire ones! I have not…

electrical Heaters?
Hi guys, the younger ones in the house like using electric heaters seen as it's cold. So which heaters shall I invest in to keep costs minimum? I have central heating, which I put on a few hours at night, and a few hours in the morning. But 1 or 2 of them like putting the heater on when it gets too chilli. So any…

Saving electricity - would socket timers be worth it?
Hi all, I'm trying to cut back my Gas and Electricity usage, as I guess we all are. I've just moved in to a 2 bed A rated flat and my first months bill (17h Feb-- 17th March) is looking to be £20.91 for electric and £22.95 for gas. Not sure how gas is so much as barely had heating on and just use it for hot water and hob…

Meter readings for Economy 7
Hello fellow MSEs. I went down last night to do a meter read at around 0030hrs and I was shocked to see my 'normal' meter running at full tilt instead of the 'low' meter. I came back at 0100hrs and then at 0130 hrs to check but it was still the Normal meter that was running. I took at picture at 0133hrs and came back to…

how does switching work?
I've just moved to a new rented flat (I'm in London) which is managed by a property agent. They said I am allowed to change suppliers as long as I inform them afterwards. Previously my rent has always had utilities included so I've never paid any bills. I did some googling and found some phone numbers, which told me that…

Scottish Power - Prepayment key meter (yay or nay?)
Right well i need some info here ! Well this past week, my mother has just dropped a bomb shell on me, saying she's in like £800 debt with SP, then I've had words with the old man, saying why hasn't he paid it of blah blah it seems they have been silent about it, (untill they got that debt collection letter) - which…

Comparison websites still showing same prices as jan/feb
I thought the gas and electric prices went down this month and the comparison sites say they reflect this but when I enter the quote details it comes up that I'm spending more over the year but at the same unit prices and estimated usage! So the saving appears greater than it is as the quoted cheapest are still the same…

Bills Gone up considerably, cheapest on comparison, what to do?
When we moved into our house, British Gas were our supplier. After doing a price comparison after we'd moved in, npower came up as the cheapest so we switched to them. We were only paying £17 per month dual fuel. When my husband spoke to a customer service rep on the phone about switching, he didn't express any concern…

Mains gas: avoiding standing charge
I am a dual fuel (gas and electricity) customer wth a mainstream supplier. I pay for gas using a key meter whose card I top up at Paypoint terminals in local shops. I only use gas for heating during the winter and I don't need gas from approximately April to October. The problem is that throughout all the time I am not…

Year and a half later, EDF are STILL chasing a bill that isn't ours
Any advice would be greatly appreciated :) . This has been going on so long I need to rearrange the facts in my head. I used to live in a shared house with a couple of friends, and we got electricity/gas with EDF. We always paid our bills on time and in good faith, thinking we were doing everything required of us. A fair…

How much electricity do you use in a day
i live in a fairly big detached house which could be classed as a 6 bedroom house. We have gas central heating and hot water. Both of us out at work during the day and kids at school. Cooking by electric oven and induction hob. We are averaging 16kwh a day which still seems high. How does this compare ?
