Comparison websites still showing same prices as jan/feb
I thought the gas and electric prices went down this month and the comparison sites say they reflect this but when I enter the quote details it comes up that I'm spending more over the year but at the same unit prices and estimated usage! So the saving appears greater than it is as the quoted cheapest are still the same but the estimated spend on my current tariff is higher. Does this make sense to anyone?? I have tried energyhelpline, money supermarket and uswitch. Uswitch seems to be the only one that calculates my estimate annual spend the same as last time.
"You are currently paying £1,056.61 a year for gas and electricity based on a consumption of 14,603 kWh for gas and 3,158 kWh for electricity with EDF Energy"
New price:
Your current spend on gas & electricity is £1,125 per year.
Doesn't seem right if EDF have reduced their gas or electric prices and somehow I'm now forecasted to spend more? Below unit prices seem same on their website, electric even seems slightly less!
EDF Standard
Electricity
13.713p/kwh
s/o 15p/day
Gas
3.848p/kwh
s/o 23p/day
Discounts
6% per year
Dual fuel discount
£8.40 per year

I believe the reduction was for standard tariff only,5% down, EDF were the first to trumpet this particular con on the t.v. without actually making it clear it was just for standard tariff.Brit Gas followed with the same con. When I saw the EDF spokesman bragging about the reduction he had to have it dragged out of him by the interviewer.0

I am on their standard tariff though!0

Edf lowered it 5% a few months ago,I me not sure of the date0

But still doesn't make sense why the comparison sites quoted me £1,125 a year instead of my initial quote of £1,056 with the same unit prices? I'm baffled!0

The comparison websites say the greatest saving is only £75 with first:utility so I didn't think that was really worth switching for all the hassle especially as first:utility doesn't seem to have any good reviews. Now the exact same quote comes up with the exact same first:utility isave v10 tariff supposedly saving me £154.68 but with the exact same unit prices as before!0

Something doesnt sound right, you are spending £1000 + on gas and electric on the standard tariff and can only save £75??
Edit: Just read you are using "estimated usage" is this given by you or using the usage estimator on the website?Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
No I calculated my usage from previous bills and actual readings last year and previous years, not estimated. I just say estimated as it'll be different for this year.
This is exactly what i don't get, how can standard variable tariff only be £75 more expensive than the cheapest tariff, it just doesn't make sense! On average is £1000-1100 expensive for the average household of 2 at the moment?0 -
The average dual fuel tariff is around £1200, so no, it's not expensive.
The typical online discount is only 4-6% less than Standard, so a £75 differential is quite reasonable. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
