Budgeting
Hi everyone, I'm sure this has probably been asked before so I apologise - I get overwhelmed by the number of threads on here! Anyway I am looking to buy my first home this year and am trying to create a budget to see how much it will cost me per month. The main thing I'd like an idea on is electric, gas and water costs.…

Advice on Electricity bill and rights please
Hi all, I have fallen behind in my electricity bill payments due to personal reasons and such. As a result I received the first "late payment" warning from British gas. then 6 days later a "very late" notification letter and that it may be passed onto collection agents etc. I fully intended to pay them the outstanding £80…

Help needed - Grounds for Complaint?
I'm not sure if this is on the right board, but here goes. Early last year I switched enerrgy supplier from EDF, but because I have 2 meters EDF made a right mess of it. Eventually, I got the second meter switched 2 months after the first and didn't get a final bill for a further 3 months. I did forget to phone EDF with my…

Help with heating costs/combi boiler settings
Hi, I hope someone can give me some advice on how to get the best out of our combi boiler. We have a Baxi Combi 105 HE, fitted approx 5 years ago along with radiators with thermostats but no room thermostat. I know it sounds ridiculous but we don't really know how to use it for the best value. There are two dials for…

Warm home discount - backdating. (npower)
I am heading for a DLA tribunal on the 7th of Feb. I believe that at this, I am likely to be granted backdated benefit which would entitle me to one of the qualifying benefits for the warm-home discount from Jan 2011 to now. Does anyone know if it's possible to make a retrospective application for this period? Thanks.

Switching suppliers while in credit
Hi, I was wanting to switch my gas supplier but have just noticed that my monthly direct debits have put my account in over £600 of credit! I presume that if I switch suppliers I'll automatically get this back as a cheque. Or should I try and hassle my supplier for a refund before I switch from them?

EDF Cannot Submit Gas Reading After Switching In September
I changed my Gas and Electricity supplier from BG to EDF in September 2011. My last bill to BG was late September and my new online account started then. I can easily submit electricity readings but not gas. I have contacted EDF several times and the most recent reply today states that my gas account has "not gone into…

hiya, i have a tenant that is on a pre paid gas meter with british gas. She has rang me to say that she is using a lot of gas (£20 in the last six days although she does not have the heating on a lot). She has rang British gas who tell her that there is nothing wrong with the meter, even though they haven't physically…

solar panels and energy meters
I recently had a 3.6kW solar array installed. This uses a "solo PV" meter to display energy generated - and it works great. I also signed up to Southern Energy's Iplan and received an ONZO smart energy meter; this (like most smart meters ) uses a clamp around the incoming cable to measure power used (actually current.)…

NPower Homecare Boiler Repair what are my rights?
Over the Xmas period my central heating boiler (a 6 year old British gas 330), was repeatedly going off. It had to be manually reactivated by re-setting the mains switch. We initially put it down to the excessively windy weather but this was happening more & more so I called for the Hometeam the first week in the New Year.…

British Gas cold callers
About 15 months ago I went through a case of identity theft whereby someone was setting up accounts for various things in my name at an old address where I used to live (my parent's house). They were using my name and address, but someone else's bank details, phone number, etc. It is thought that it was a scam to do with…

Could Martin help?
Me and I know lots of others, hate the way gas and electric bills are made up. That is, you need to be a near genius to discover what you have actually used and what you are being charged for. Why are they not worded in such a way as it is easy to read. For instance we use units and are charged for units. In all other…

Thumbs up For OVO Energy!
So i switched to OVO on 1st December, paying £76 a month DD, based on last years Kwh consumption. Previously with E.ON, paying £100 a month. Received a statement on Friday, and I'm already in credit by £55! Happy days! To be fair, we had a faulty boiler last year, which could have added to the high useage readings, but…
