Is it true Dishwashers use more electricity/gas than washing up, or just a myth?
Just wondered, because I've heard claims and counter claims. Wanted to know people's thoughts from personal experience.

Working out energy consumption
Hi all, i am trying to work out my annual energy consumption with a view to switching in December. My current supplier is Scottish Power on the fixed price online Dec 09 tariff. I received a large bill in July this year of £668 which was totally unexpected as i thought my Direct debits were enough being £129 a month. I…

Electric bill question
I'm with British Gas on their Click Energy 5 tariff, do you know why I have two rates, the first 162 kwh at 22p and the next 931 kwh at 10p. Why would their be two rate? How can I work out the average of a kwh when their are two rates? Thanks.

New Tenant made to assume previous occupants debt
A friends daughter has been given a tenancy by a housing association. There was a prepay meter fitted in the house with the supplier being Manweb Scottish Power. The supply was off and the meter would need £25 to re-establish the supply, as they continue to accrue cost until credit is put in. it is also set to recover a…

Huge electricity consumption, can't work out why!
So I decided to ditch and switch gas and electric on behalf of my mum as it's been at least a year since I last did. Last time I switched us to paperless billing to save money but of course I should have realised she wasn't going to actually READ the damn emails >.> So when I started looking through them to work out energy…

Two bed terraced house elec cost
Hi, I am currently paying £42 direct debit (monthly) for combined gas and electric. Does that seem about right or do you think I could get cheaper?- I am scared to switch unless the direct debit price changes dramatically, being on a strict budget. Thanks in advance :)

New flat - no gas....
Hi, We just got the keys for our new flat (not new build..) today and went round to check everything and found there was no gas coming into the hob, the boiler seemed to be firing up but not heating the water.. comparison sites
I have 9 months worth of statements, when I am looking for cheaper utilities does this mean that I have to put in the figures in £'s and select monthly? averaging out what's happened over the past 9 months? Is that the best way to do it? I know people saying kw/h is best but how would I go about finding how much I use with…

now I know, cost of pilot light
I have just come back from 14 days holiday and had left my pilot light on, although I had turned off the water heater. I used approx 4 cubic meters of gas which converts to 45kwh so my pilot light uses just over 3kwh of gas a day which works out about 10p per day. So £36.50 per year for a pilot light. And I have just…

New condensing boiler - how to run it efficiently
Hi I've just had a new condensing boiler fitted (traditional with hot water tank) and I am wondering how to run it most efficiently. It is a Gloworm HX24 and my installer has set the water temperature to max (seems to be 81 degrees) and has told me not to touch it just to use the programmer. My hot water cylinder is set to…

Gas Boiler: Using all/some radiators?
This question has been bugging me for ages! Does having the valves on all radiators in the house 'open' (so every one gets hot) use more gas than just having a few of them on? I thought that with a gas boiler, when it's on, it's always going at 100% so it won't make a difference. When using, say, half the radiators, they…
