According to energyhelpline I can save around £228 by switching from Energy Online Extra Saver 12 to FixOnline 3.

It seems a no-brainer. Or am I missing something?

  • No but British Gas may be cheaper as may be Ovo or Southern Electric.

The only one that beats it is First Utility isave (not a fixed tariff) and only by £8 so it's not one I'll consider. Ovo is approximately half of the savings

Really wondering over the wisdom of changing to a fixed tariff. Is there any chance that prices may go down?

theres the £30 cancellation fee to factor in if you change your mind but it is the same price as their standard online tariff at the moment and if you need the stability then fixing it is no problem.

prices could possibly drop a little but do not think it will happen unless the suppliers are forced to or someone breaks ranks.

I had noticed the £30 cancellation fee. I don't specifically need the stability of fixing but it just seemed daft not to take what amounts to a 15% saving.

Despite all the talk from OFGEM nothing seems to be making energy suppliers cut their prices. There has been one small round of cuts which often don't affect the online tariffs as much as the headline rate.

It just makes me suspicious when an energy company offers a fixed rate tariff without it being higher than their standard tariff, never mind higher than their standard online traiff.
