comparison sites
I have 9 months worth of statements, when I am looking for cheaper utilities does this mean that I have to put in the figures in £'s and select monthly? averaging out what's happened over the past 9 months?
Is that the best way to do it?
I know people saying kw/h is best but how would I go about finding how much I use with only 9 months of use?
This feels like a tricky maths equation.

I would just add one third to the kWh, so if you have used 3,000kWh enter 4,000kWh.
It won't be exact, but if you try permutations(say first add 25% and then 50% so in the example above 3,750kWh and 4,500kWh) it will give a good indication - probably in all cases it will be the same couple of companies who will be cheapest.0 -
If you have 9 months of bills at todays date, the first one will roughly cover the period February to April. February is the depth of winter with outdoor temperatures gradually improving through March & April.
I suggest you add 15% to this bill and use it as your estimate for the units and cost on your next bill . Rather than entering your bill costs into a Switch site, you will get better information if you enter your annual total of Kw0 -
I share your fear of Maths Hippyer!! I cant get my head around how to compare electricity rates from various suppliers rather than use comparison sites. My bills are never for the same number of days, so the proportion of first tier charges is different on every one, some bills are estimated - so I cant just take a quarter and work out how much it would be because I cant find a straightforward quarterly bill that runs for an exact 90 days . My head hurts just thinking about it !0

you are right about february being the height of winter and we moved in last December.
This was why I thought adding 25% to the current total would be inaccurate.
We haven't yet started using the central heating again, but we are wary of the drop in temperature and expect to be using it again soon.
I think I'll have a bash at getting this sorted out later tonight. grrr0
