New flat - no gas....
Options
Hi,
We just got the keys for our new flat (not new build..) today and went round to check everything and found there was no gas coming into the hob, the boiler seemed to be firing up but not heating the water.. After some investigation we found the meter outside and found it appears to be a prepayment meter and the display came up with "OFF £12 Owed"..
I'm guessing we won't get gas until that debt is paid off but I also wondered how hard it is to change this to a standard meter? I'm going to ring up tomorrow to find our who the supplier is but was just wondering if this was going to be a long drawn out process.... We really don't want a prepayment meter..!!!
Any advice appreciated..!

It was a long time ago now, but I changed from a prepayment to a standard meter, it took a phone call and about an hour to change. Don't know what happens these days though.0

Yeah, phone them up. They should just put a normal meter in for you but there may be occasions when they ask for a deposit.0

Thanks for your responses! Took us half an hour of phone calls to find out who the supplier is who informed us previous tennants had run up a hefty bill so they're not re setting the meter and giving us gas until we send the completion certificate to prove we own the place... non gas till Monday then..........0
