Which are the cheapest electric heaters to run?
Which is cheapest/most efficient? I have 2 fan heaters, 1 convector heater and one oil filled radiator/heater. We keep having to use them because we keep running out of oil (for the central heating) and cant afford to buy any (and pay for it all in one go)

I'm trying to work out how much (£) it costs to have the heating on for an hour. I understand that this may depend on other things, but if anyone can give me an average rough price that would…

£250 gas bill for two months!
Just got my gas bill. 582 metric units over 63 days at a cost of £250! 3 bed modern detached. Feels high to me what do you think? I think a lot of it may be to do with the fact that we have a control unit that will only turn on the heating and the hot water at the same time. We cannot turn the heating on independant of the…

Economy 7 or not Economy 7
I'm currently on British Gas dual fuel and am considering asking for an Economy 7 meter. I've enquired with BG and they tell me it will cost £35 for the switch. A bit disappointing. However, they also say that I need to have my storage heater(s) installed BEFORE they will change my meter so that they "can test the…

Scottish Power / Shared Septic Tank Issue
Hi I'm not quite sure if this is the right section for this query, as it related to two kinds of services I suppose, but I think Electricity is probably the most suited..... Okay, here's the background of my problem: We moved into a small, private development of 4 houses in December 2007. We were the first occupants and…

british gas introduce cancellation fee
I seem to spend my life chasing BG tariffs, they never seem to reduce the tariff I am on , always launching a new tariff hoping I don't notice and keep paying the old rate, click energy went from 1 through to 6 ; now we have websaver 1 but the catch is when they inevitably launch websaver 2 there is a £30 cancellation fee…

To switch or not to switch NOW?!
Hello, Does anyone have any thoughts on whether to switch energy suppliers now (we need to go from seperate accounts to Duel Fuel). British Gas websaver 1 is coming up as the cheapest, but I understand the companies may be lowering prices at some point in January. Does anyone know when this rate change may be? I don't want…

Old debt to Npower, can they disconnect me?
I was with NPower and had a long running argument with them surrounding HUGE bills at an old property and changed to BG when we moved into our new house in May 08, this took AGES, all down to NPower, and the swap was finally completed in Dec 08, and they issued their final bills. I went on a payment scheme with them at £30…

Confused by Gas
After speaking to my mum last night I'm wondering about the accuracy of my gas bills. I live in a two bedroom ground floor flat and work full time, so my heating isn't on all day. It's turned off alltogether at night and I usually have it on for 45 mins in the mornings and it's timed to come on at 5ish until about 10pm.…

Custom Google.co.uk search engine to save monitor energy by use of black backgrounds
Sian Berry of the Green Party said in the Metro Newspaper in 2007... 'If you have the old style of chunky monitor, having most of the screen black does reduce the amount of energy used. But if you have got a flat screen it won't make any difference.' (…

Which is more efficient, a system boiler or a combi?
Reason I ask is we're moving (again)..from a 3 bed semi to a 2 bed top-floor flat. I love this house, I love the garden, I love the garage...I do not love the £300 water bill, the solid ground floors with no insulation, and the fact that I've been reduced to living upstairs these last few weeks..heh. So we've found a flat…

2 Bedroom Electric only flat - 54kWh average daily usage over 8 weeks - very high?
Hi all, Firstly, thanks for reading this, it's been a nightmare and I'm not sure what else to do. Here's the scenario: According to our meter (electricty digial dual readings), we're using an average of 54kWh per day over the last 8 weeks. I'm with Scottish Power, on a discounted online rate of something like 15p first 900…

Gas bill seems high
Hi, Just got our 1/4 gas bill and it's 233.14 and we have used 549 over 91 days. We are on click 5 with BG, and working this out it's £78 p/m. There are only 2 of us in a 3 bed semi (we have converted it to a 2 bed) And as we both work strange shifts the heating is on a fair bit but not 24/7 and the termostat is set at…

Help! Being charged 19 months after cancelling gas!
Hi all, I have received a letter from southern electric saying that I owe them £44 from a gas supply that I stopped paying for in April 2007.
