Gas bill seems high

Hi,

Just got our 1/4 gas bill and it's 233.14 and we have used 549 over 91 days.

We are on click 5 with BG, and working this out it's £78 p/m.

There are only 2 of us in a 3 bed semi (we have converted it to a 2 bed) And as we both work strange shifts the heating is on a fair bit but not 24/7 and the termostat is set at 19oc and we have TRV on every rad aswell.

We have double glazing but these are not that great so we know these do need changing but can afford to as yet as we will need to do the whole house.

As we live in a 1900 house the walls cannot be insulated and the attic is done but not to the 270mm that it is standard now so we will address that aswell.

Bill is certainly not high for the house insulation and your pattern of use - especially as Dec was particularly cold.

The average UK consumption is 20,500kWh pa and you have used 6,000 in an Oct-Jan quarter so will probably be about average consumption.

Have you checked if there is not a cheaper tariff than Click 5 - even with BG

You have really solved your own problem. You have your heating set to a reasonable temperature but you are effectively paying to heat the street. If you can't insulate the walls (do you have reflective foil behind each radiator?) then double insulate your roof space. Also you might consider thermally lined curtains in your main living areas until you can afford better windows.
