British Gas for electric.
Hello all.. wonder if anyone has any ideas on my situation. Bought a new house 2 years ago which needed renovating. We bought on 1st Nov and on 15th December had a key meter switched to a normal readable meter. British Gas wrote to me and sent me originally a key card and then confirmation to say that meter was being…

Be careful when changing to ebico- southern electric stealing ebico customers!
If you've recently changed to ebico I would check what you're being charged. 3 weeks ago our gas supply to ebico (or so we thought) went live. After a week I thought the meter seemed to be charging too much. I phoned ebico, but got through to southern electric (who deal with the billing and customer service side of ebico).…

E-On bill dispute - help please
I'm posting on behalf of my Mum. She was a customer of E-On, moved briefly to NPower, and then back to E-On. E-on have her down as an erroneous transfer. She moved house in August and under the circumstances has chosen not to keep E-On as her provider. When she went to NPower at the end of last year she was with them for…

EON won't freeze my tariff
As a result of the recent increase in prices from EON, I've decided to transfer away from them. I thought if I informed them, which I've done by email, they had to keep me on the tariff before the price increase. They are refusing (see below). Are they allowed to do this ? Account number: *********** Hello Mr ********* and…

Southern Electric exposed on Watchdog
Southern Electric's doorstep selling was exposed on BBC Watchdog last night. They filmed a 'representative' lying through his back teeth. The regulator should throw the book at them for this, but we know that won't happen. You can read about it here:-…

Scottish Power/Quidco
How long do you have to stay with a company to get the Quidco, it's already showing as validated and I switched to them today. I think ebico will be cheapest for me but I'm considering a move to Eon for cashback first before moving on to Ebico. Can quidco pull cashback once it is validated?

Cant afford this
My daughter is in rented accomodation and is with British Gas for both gas & electric. Electric is paid at £30.00 per month by direct debit and she is putting £25 - £30 per week in her prepayment gas meter. She is supposedly on the Essentials tarrif for both fuels. As she is a single parent she is struggling to pay this…

Are my calculations right?
Just wondering if I have calculated this right! It seems there is no difference in the price between Eon ExtraOnline Saver 8 and British Gas Click Energy 6, including discount. Has anyone else calculated to find the difference is the same? 2007-2008 Consumption Electricity: 2899 Gas: 19030 Annual Bill: July 07 - July 08 =…

Confused! Price rise from Eon from 22nd August 2008??
I'm a bit confused! Have recently received a letter from Eon a few days ago about the price rise of my EnergyOnline Extra Saver 8 which was expected. But i've realised that we actually received a letter in September 2008 with the exact price rise starting from 22nd August 2008. I never noticed this letter as I am just…

How should one maintain the temperature in the house??
I've been trying to figure out which way is best to heat my house so the boiler does the least amount of fuel munching. So here is my question ( especially for winter scenarios) Should I allow the house temperature to go to as low as it will go when I don't need a heated house, like sleep time and work time then put the…

Beware -check your estimated future usage!!!
Just got me email to confirm my latest electricity & gas bills could be viewed online, and I can hardly believe the cheek of it! All the meter readings are correct, in the last 6 months we used 1179 unit's of electricity and the 6 months before that we used 1719. No problem there, but what really annoyed me was the second…

Uplighter with big 55 watt CFL?
Hi Thought I'd run this idea past the forum. We have a halogen uplighter in our living room that uses a 250 Watt halogen bulb. It's great for lighting up the room which is really very dark without it (we use a 26 watt CFL for the main central light). I wondered if it would be possible to use an uplifter with a 55 Watt CFL…

Amount of electricity used with dimmer switch..
I've got 8 halogen downlights in my kitchen/diner. There is a dimmer switch and a conventional switch for them. My question is, does using the dimmer actually affect the amount of electricity they're using? They are very bright and I rarely need to have them on 'full'. If I keep them dimmed a little, will I be using less…

I live in a 1 bedroom flat which only uses electricity. I currently pay 15.192p/kwh for daytime electricity 7am- midnight, and 3.500 for night time, the rest. This is through Utility Warehouse. Roughly works out at £35 per month, includes doing washing at night etc and keeping lights off! Considering changing tarriff, and…

Is it worth ringing before I switch
Hi all Just had my quarterly bill through and checked the costings. I'm with Southern Electric and basically it was a good deal but now it doesn't seem competitive. Is it worth ringing them before I go through the switching process to see if they'll drop their prices? Has anyone tried it with much success? Thanks

Billing Time Limit
I guess I am maybe clutching at atraws here, but I left a flat which was powered by NPower for electricity on the 25th June, despite me giving them the meter reading the next day they have only just issued the final bill, dated 5th November. Is that normal to wait so long? Is there any requirement for them to bill me…
