Eon - Frequency of Bills
Hi, I am with Eon for both gas and electricity. I haven't had a bill since June so emailed them to ask why. They said that as I pay monthly I will only get a bill every 6 months. They then go on to saying that I should expect my next bill at the end of November (which is not quite 6 months). This sounds really scarey what…

Sites that compare electricity unit prices?
Are there any sites that compare the actual cost of electricity units directly? I've been on a load of price comparison sites and they're all pretty useless for me to be honest. Each site gives me a different answer - e.g. one site tells me that my cheapest option is to go with Supplier A, Tariff 1 which will save me £30 a…

I have just received a bill from British Gas for £1300! On phoning British Gas, I was informed that due to an error at their end the bill was for energy use dating back to 2006!!! They advised that they have been using estimated readings for my electricity bills since 2006 despite the fact that I regulary provide readings…

Stupidity of meter reader
I have an on-line account with Scottish Power and I read my own meter every quarter and enter the amount used on the internet and they calculate the billl. As I understand it every meter has to be read by someone official at least once a year, presumably to ensure you are not misreading it. Today the meter reader came…

Best way to heat a single room
Things are quiet at work just lately so we're being asked to work more and more from home to save on company car mileage and fuel. But now that it's getting cold I'm wondering what the cheapest way of heating my 'office' would be. Do you think it would be cheaper to simply put the central heating on or to buy an electric…

Energy prices 'could fall soon' BBC NEWS
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7724218.stm "The UK's second biggest energy company says it is "optimistic" that domestic prices could be cut early in 2009. " Call me cynical but I assume by early they mean March onwards when most of us will be using a lot less gas and Elecy. Wouldn't it be nice if they made the cuts…

New house... who do I go with?
Hello monesyavers I am moving into a new-build house at the end of the month, and therefore we need to find a new supplier. We're told that the house is very energy effiient so I expect my consumption of gas to come down from 1073 units but electricity to stay the same at 5119. What's the best way of chosing a new supplier…

Advice please! Combi v 'thermal store'
I'm on the horns of a dilemma. We're upgrading an old pumped CH gravity fed HW system, but what to? My wife wants a combi so she can grab more bathroom space by taking out the cylinder. Her friends have combis. I'm deeply suspicious because I have read so much about unreliability on this site - we have only needed two…

Moneysupermarket.com not giving me my cashback
I heeded the warnings and locked in on British Gas's December 2009 price guarantee back in July. Good job I did too as around a week later the plan was removed, then the big hikes started just after this and the former plan I'd just left rose well above the BG rates. Anyway this is all painting a picture. The real problem…

British Gas - is this normal???
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I don't have gas at my property so was unaware how much it costs. My mum rang me in a panic yesterday as British Gas have told her her gas bill is going up from £50 a month to £90. She is a pensioner and is going frantic. The £50 sounds horrendous to me as she has an electric cooker…

Npower Price Fix 2011 - looking expensive?
I switched from Southern Price Fix 2008 to NPower Price Fix 2011 earlier in the summer, just before the huge increases. By my reckoning (based on a spreadsheet showing my actual consumption under the various leading tariffs), prices needed to rise around 35% in 2008 (which they more or less did) plus around 15% in 2009 and…
