Eon - Frequency of Bills

Options
Hi, I am with Eon for both gas and electricity. I haven't had a bill since June so emailed them to ask why. They said that as I pay monthly I will only get a bill every 6 months. They then go on to saying that I should expect my next bill at the end of November (which is not quite 6 months). This sounds really scarey what with the increasing cost of fuel just lately. Is this correct for all Eon customers?
Many thanks.

There is no reason why you can't give them meter readings and ask if your direct debit is covering the cost if you are worried.
Can you go on-line and check your account?

I take weekly meter readings so I am aware of my usage and have the correct readings for any price changes.

I don't pay by direct debit and I get a bill every three months.

  • Thanks thats a good idea. I have always paid by direct debit and have always received bills every 3 months so I don't understand why they now say that I will now only receive a bill every 6 months.

It may be because it costs money to issue a bill (paper, postage, customer queries, environmentally unfriendly) and therefore they have reduced it to 6 monthly.

you can do it all online.... i have just this second created my account, much better than having a hugh amount of un-needed paperwork!!
  • No you should get billed approx every 3 mths, there's no 6 monthly cycle that I've ever seen with any Eon accounts. They do trials occasionally and put some customers on monthly billing but I've not seen anything about 6 monthly trials.
  • I use the internet for my e-on account and have paperless billing. My last bill was in August and when I submitted readings at the end of October it showed my next bill was due around 11 November. Someone came and read the meter over a week ago and I expected an e-mail shortly after to say my bill was available online but haven't received anything. I logged onto my account anyway and it now says my next bill is due in February, not November as previously stated. I've e-mailed e-on to find out why but haven't yet received a reply. Six months is too long between bills and if this is what they are now doing I'll probably change supplier. However, hope it's just a glitch in the system and they'll sort it soon.

By the way I pay by monthly direct debit - not sure if that makes a difference though.

I'd be interested to know if this is widespread, as this could limit the convenient times to switch away from Eon, without being hit with a big final bill. Eon T&C's state they will not apply discounts to final bills.

At present, I get 21% discount with Eon ElectricityOnline Extra Saver v5 (15% discount plus 6% Direct Debit discount). My next bill is due in February, and I expect to move in March/April (therefore minimising loss of discount). If Eon did decide to go 6-monthly, and I still left in April, I could potentially lose out on £80 of discounts across 5 months.

Are many people finding their billing cycles are changing to biannual periods?
  • Thanks for the warning. I didn't know you didn't get discount on a final bill.
  • I too am with Eon and I was expecting a bill no the 24th Nov and when I log on it says that my next bill will be in Feb.
So I cant see what I have used, £-wise, for the last 3 months. I can see energy tracker etc but want to know the actual £....
  • please let me know how this works out as am in the process of switching to eon as they have come up cheaper than british gas although not cheaper than n-power though, but have had dealings with them before and never again.
