Confused! Price rise from Eon from 22nd August 2008??

I'm a bit confused! Have recently received a letter from Eon a few days ago about the price rise of my EnergyOnline Extra Saver 8 which was expected. But i've realised that we actually received a letter in September 2008 with the exact price rise starting from 22nd August 2008. I never noticed this letter as I am just trying to help my mum find a cheaper supplier.

However, I thought the EnergyOnline Extra Saver 8 hadn't had a price rise until now?? And the new letter that I received from them has exactly the same unit price rise for both gas and electric, yet I've been paying for the new price since August.

Did anyone else receive that letter in August?

Your new prices, effective from 22 August 2008

Your new electricity prices:
Primary unit rate: 27.3p/kWh (first 225/kWh per quarter)
Secondary unit rate: 10.29p/kWh

Your new gas prices:
Primary unit rate: 6.53p/kWh (first 670/kWh per quarter)
Secondary unit rate: 3.557p/kWh

10% duel fuel discount

The November 2008 letter has the same prices on the back but it says that prices have risen because I've avoided the impact of price increases announced in August! Even though they had already raised it!

Last year I spent
Electricity: 2899kWh
Gas: 19030kWh
Annual Bill: July 07 - July 08 = £892.4 (duel fuel)

Should I stick with Eon? British Gas Click Energy 6 seems to have cheaper unit rates now but are the rates due to go up again in January? Is there a time period/limit to the amount of times I can switch? They also only seem to have a measly £15 discount for duel fuel whereas Eon would be around £100 at 10%..

I heard from a BG rep that NG prices were going down in Jan - maybe worth giving them a call to see what they say to you.

The utilities can announce price increases up to 65 days after they take place. Once notified of the increase, you can do one of 2 things:-

    1. Accept the increase. The rates will be backdated; or

    2. Reject the increase and switch. You will continue on the old rates until the switch is done.

There have been a number of threads about this lately.

As for will the rates go up in January? Who knows?
  • Did you switch on to version 8 from an earlier version just before 22 August?
