Oil filled radiator vs central heating for one room
I am new to the forum and I would be grateful for people's advice on my specific situation. I have started working from home. During the day I only really need heat in my home office which is upstairs, not the rest of the house. Would it be cheaper to heat that room with an oil filled radiator or use the central…

Changing Gas /Electric Supplier-HELP!!
Martin's suggestion is to hold fire on changing gas or electric suppliers for the time being - Why then is 'moneysupermarket telling me that if I change to british gas now I will save nearly £300 per year plus £30 credit from them - I am currently with Atlantic for both - one of the cheapest suppliers.

3 Year Fixed Power Deals for Home Businesses? What's the catch?
Hi All. I run my small business from home and out of the blue I got a call from N-Power promising savings for home business users like me, with fixed rates for three years. I don't have all the details as I don't usually waste time talking to cold-callers, but I think he quoted 13.4p per unit (I only have electricity, so I…

The rewards are £15 and £25 respectively, it's a small cash reward…

Look closely at your BG bills
The last time British Gas put the price up it was bang in the middle of my quarter cycle so BG estimated what the reading would be on the date of the increase.Guess what the estimated that I only used 1/4 of the gas consumed at the cheaper price and 3/4 at the increased price.

Cold House? CHECK YOUR RADIATOR BTUs
First let me start on the basics. Better explanations of technicals or corrections are appreciated. For those that don't know, BTU - British Therman Unit. It a measurement of heat. 1 watt=3 BTU Your radiators should produce enought BTUs (heat) to match the BTUs for the room. The amount of BTU the room needs depends of…

can't switch suppliers because of two meters?
Hi, I tried to follow Martin's advise to cap and went to E.on. My present supplier is Scottish Hydro and we are all electric, with storage heaters etc. Our electric bills are over £3000 per year, but I have been told that because we have 2 " MPAN" numbers, we can't switch, I was told this once before by Scottish Power,…

Should I switch to British Gas???
Hi, I am currently using Scottish Power as my electricity provider. I just checked a few price comparison websites and it turns out that I would save around £200 a year if I switched to British Gas - Energy 5. British Gas seems to offer the best deal in terms of money saving for my 8772 annual kWh consumption. My question…

Have i made a mistake???
I've just been on British gas website and fixed my gas & electric until 2011. After looking at the rest of the site it appears that I am eligible for the Essentials tariff as I am on working tax credit and below the annual income threshold. Would it be better for me to go onto that tariff or just leave it as the capped…

Take advantage of estimated billing
Hey, I had an idea. Probably not totally legit, but anyway... If you're sure that the price of gas or electric is going to go UP, you could add extra onto your meter reading that you do. Just be sure that when you enter your next meter reading(s), that they are MORE than your last (fake) readings :) Effectively, you're…
