Martin's suggestion is to hold fire on changing gas or electric suppliers for the time being - Why then is 'moneysupermarket telling me that if I change to british gas now I will save nearly £300 per year plus £30 credit from them - I am currently with Atlantic for both - one of the cheapest suppliers.

Isn't that because they have announced the price rise but it has not been implemented yet? I think it only comes into practice in October. I might be wrong though.
I am in the same situation and I switched just before this was all announced. Never mind!!!!0 -

my provider UTILITY WAREHOUSE says it will always be cheaper than the top 6 ?
You will find lots about uw and the way they do business if you do a search on this forum.
Amongst the problems reported, they have been found guilty by the ASA of making misleading claims about their prices.
They don't officially claim to be cheaper than the top 6, but to be "competitive" with them (whatever that is supposed to mean).
Their "competitiveness" doesn't include competing against the cheaper on line tariffs, nor does it include their compulsory "club" membership fees (£1.76nto £3/month), when comparing prices against the top 6.
This will explain why your price comparison search found them unsurprisingly more expensive!0 -
HI, Until recently i had been recieving my gas and electric from Southern Electric and just prior to the big price hikes i went on to a comparison website and found i could save £230 a year if i transfered to the british gas duel fuel plan.
Ive just recieved my notice from Southern electric telling me ive got 7 days to change my mind and with the recent price rises im no longer sure British gas are the cheapest. If theres not much in it i might aswell stay with Southern electric.
Can anyone advise.0
