New uSwitch / ScottishPower offer

>>>>>
ScottishPower have launched a new fixed price plan, "Fixed Price Energy October 2009". The plan is available for dual fuel and electricity only customers and you must pay by monthly Direct Debit.
The charges for this plan are higher for gas by £9 a month (based on current monthly Direct Debit prices) and £9 a month for electricity (based on current monthly Direct Debit prices), BUT they will not increase if ScottishPower increases prices between now and 30th September 2009.
The plan is not yet available on the market, but customers can pre-register their switch with uSwitch today and ScottishPower will begin processing your switch to "Fixed Price Energy October 2009" between 21st and 25th August.

I guess other offers may be coming soon also. I presume this is an attempt to corner some market share behind the scenes ?

  • IMHO there's no need to fix at the moment. BG seem to have completely jumped the gun with their crazy 35% increase in gas prices. 4 of the Big 6 still haven't announced price increases yet but if they increase them anything like 35% they are IMO going to make themselves look very greedy when oil and wholesale gas prices have collapsed since the BG increase. My gut feeling is the increases WILL come but will be much smaller than both BG and EDFs' rises. Wait until all the increases have been announced and then have a scoot around for a fix, if that's what you genuinely want.

HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??
  • Have come on here specifically to check this out - being a Scottish Power dual fuel customer. Wanted to know what others thought about it. A total of £18 per month equals £216 more per year - which is a lot! SP have just increased my monthly dd by £17 as my previous dd wasn't covering my consumption, but don't know how much of this is actually to cover increase in fuel prices.
if i had known then what i know now
  • As far as I know this only for new customers if you are an existing sp customer you can't have it

My understanding is that existing customers can take advantage of price capping now, but news ones have to wait until a later date.
