JSA and Self Employed - a question
I was made redundant just over a year ago. My wife and I became eligible for means tested JSA. I have a specific set of skills and based on those I set up a business last year. It hasn't made a profit yet - but it looks like in about 6 weeks I will be able to start drawing an income from things. My wife is looking for work…

Essentially, my boss is trying to get me to convert from a no sick pay/no holiday pay self-employed wage to a PAYE wage, and gave me a gross rate of what they will be offering... Is there a way I can calculate roughly my net pay for both,…

JSA clothing allowance
Is this fact or fiction ? A friend has been on Job Seeker's Allowance for a while so has struggled financially meaning he does not have any smart work clothes, for an office based job. Is there really a clothing allowance and would this let him buy a few smart items of clothing, ready for his Monday morning start.

How would you answer this (Jobcentre Survey)
The jobcentre were asking people their age and length of unemployment and asking how they thought the jobcentre could help them into work. They were asking a type of survey. My thoughts are how odd. The jobcentre dont get your jobs they arent the employers. I dont see how they can help. Its not down to them? Out of…

tax relief on petrol used for work when earnings are below tax threshold
Hi I am a community care worker and I use our family car to do care calls to peoples' houses and travel about 10-15 miles per day, paying for my own petrol. My salary and holiday allowance dropped by 40%, pro-rata. I used to get 25 days holiday and now get 15, which was obviously fine. I am on holiday today and just had an email…

6.4 people chasing every job
An MP just stated in PMs Questions that there are 6.4 people chasing every job. That's not true at all as he is only taking the jobs advertised and dividing by the unemployed figure but they do not realise that it is not just the unemployed that are aplying for job but the employed too therefore 6.4 people is a lie!
