Jc Behaving Oddly - Phoned Me About My Job
November5th
I told the Job Centre on my signing on day, Monday, that I had an unconfirmed job offer and would hopefully be signing off on Friday once it was all in writing.
They phoned me first thing this morning and asked me if I had got the job.
I said yes and that I would be in to sign off tomorrow, and how nice it was of them to call.
But isn't that weird? Is this what they do now? What was the point? Why do they even have time to call me?
Anyone else get personal calls from the JC? This did not happen in my other brief spells of unemployment and signing on, over 2 decades...

The JC do all sorts of weird things, I wouldn't worry about it. Most of the staff are interested in doing the easiest jobs they can find that make them look like they're worth their wage packet. Making a phone call instead of dealing with paperwork usually satisfies that criteria.0

Maybe they are just checking because they are planning a surprise party for me with balloons and streamers, and they need to make sure I am showing up before they rifle the petty cash tin for digestives with chocolate on.
I am very much looking forward to it

Probably planning on taking money of you some way.0 -
When you start you will be asked to go and fill in a form saying how the JC you go to helped you get a job, so that they get a pat on the back. They asked me to do this when I got my job 3 years ago. I didn't fill their form in as they didn't get me the job at all.0

Or maybe is so long since a customer of that JC got a job that you will be met by the press and the papparazzi, and a great big celebration with all the dignatrys lined up to shake your hand... :rotfl:0 -

:rotfl: I have added that to the imagination and thrown in a jobs boards trolley dash for good measure. Be great if they hire a camel or something too. I would LOVE a camel ride.0 -

After my last spell unemployed (a year!) I did go in and made a point of thanking my advisor because I had a good one who was very supportive, but thanking them for getting me a job would be weird.
Any advisor who knows and appreciates just what it can take sometimes to get re-hired (and trust you to get on with it) should be publicly thanked as an example. people in the JC seemed shocked that I did it!
I have taken the view that my advisor phoning me to check whether I had the job was caring, and I will thank her again when I sign off tomorrow. There aren't many bad eggs in the JC system, but boy, they can really taint your view and effect how you treat the experience. Still, I remember the Job Centres with the plexi glass and boothes so 'clients' couldn't attack the staff... how bad did it get?0 -

Good on you getting the job but remember it's you that found the job and it was you that interviewed and done well.
To be honest I don't know why you are saying thanks because they are only doing the job they are paid for, as for them ringing I would put it down to them checking that you are signing off so they can add you to their sign off figures. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -

I am actually in hysterics with this thread, thank you so much for making my night :rotfl: I hope you get balloons, streamers, papparazi, ice cream & jelly... whatever your heart desires :rotfl:
Other than that though, congratulations on getting the job :T when will it be confirmed?
