Getting first chef's job?

My wife just completed her Cordon Bleu Diploma, just wondering if anyone has any thoughts about best directions to proceed from here?

I suggested we go to a local Michelin-starred restaurant tomorrow lunch time and have a word with them after eating lunch. :D

She thought this might be a bit of an imposition.

Whaddya reckon?

I would say, by all means ask to speak to the staff/manager/chef - say you loved the meal and would like to get in to cooking to this kind of standard.

Have a lovely conversation and drop in your wife's recent course. Ask what is the best way to find jobs in this kind of kitchen/experience required to get to work in that kind of environment.

By all means take a CV to leave in case junior jobs/work experience become available, but be aware that the entry route will usually be via VERY junior posts. However, even getting a job washing up in somewhere where they are willing to give you experience can be very rewarding on your career route.

Enthusiasm can take you a long way if you have the determination. Good luck x
