company pay

I work for a company which until april has been an offshoot of another umbrealla company, in april the company I work in along with the other departments i.e training will become one as it means they have less tax to pay, Staff that work for the main company have always been paid more than those within the offshoot I work for despite doing an identical job my question is when we all become the same company should we receive the same pay for identical jobs?

thanks

No. Your only protection is to maintain your current rate. However if you are in a union they should be arguing to harmonise upwards asap, not least so that the employer avoids any potential equal pay claims. But beware the employer seeking to harmonse downwards.

    Thanks,

It just seems so unfair, we do the same job but because of our location we get paid less, our mainland equivilants get paid £2 more per hour whilst we are only on minimum wage, we are equally qualified.
I am a union member but was unsure about how much they could help.

George Osborne would be proud of your employer. Regional pay personified. If ever there was a role for a union this was it. Get on to them and don't take no for an answer! Good luck.
