Please help - debt advice needed
Hello Please bear with me whilst I try to explain my situation. 10 years ago I separated with my partner - at that time we had loans and credit cards in our individual and joint names. We decided to go with a company called 'Spectrum' who managed our debts but then heard various reports that they weren't a reputable…

Money claim: implications if we defend it?
I'd be grateful for some advice. Painter problems - sending someone else with no warning who wouldn't have been verified by Checkatrade - part of job botched - very messy at end. Bill was agreed price (though additional for materials was far higher than expected) but we wanted to discuss it given the shoddy behaviour.…

Help! DRO or Bankruptcy - SOA
Hi there, I've been posting on the other boards but I'm really confused. StepChange suggested Bankruptcy but others have suggested DRO (which would obviously be a better solution). I don't have any assets or interest in properties. My pension is paid into monthly but is worth less than £2000. Here's my SOA mostly based on…

Help needed
I have been on here for about 2 years off and on and I was doing well getting my debt down and feeling much better. Earlier this year my husband lost his job and was out of work for 6 weeks. He then had to go away for 8 weeks training which meant although he had accommodation and travel covered he still had the expense of…

Statute barred debt cont....
Hi I recently posted on here and had some great advice. I have debt that has all become statute barred. The last payment I made was in 2009 through CCCS. I have not acknowledged any of the debt since I stopped paying, this was advice given to me then. About a month ago I received a CCJ form which I responded to as advised…

Nearly Debt Free
Hi All, I have been on this forum for some time, mostly hiding in the background, positing now and then in the DFW threads and trying to help others. As you can see from my signature, I was over £13k in debt last year. Since October 2015, we've been through a very tough and frustrating time paying it back. I have just over…

SOA Calculator and others
Hi. I am the author of the SOA Calculator that is/was widely used here. This is a quick message to ask if it is still being used? I am about to semi-retire so thought it might be fun/useful to write a phone app version of it. Would that be of interest? Note - although I co-created stoozing.com and wrote the calculators…

Appealing DWP Income Support overpayment decision
I've received an income support overpayment letter from the DWP for the huge sum of £11,000. The reasons were stated on a letter entitled statement of reasons for the decision. I was advised by the CAB to ask for a mandatory reconsideration as I had evidence disputing their reasons. Once the mandatory reconsideration is…

Stepchange Refunds
I just thought I would let everyone know - I have received an email from Stepchange regarding my DMP that I had with them 4/5 years ago now. They have looked at all their old accounts and are refunding any interest that was charged that wasn't paid to the companies. This is a genuine email - I rang through to the phone…

What a year!
Hi guys :) I've been lurking on these boards for years but I finally created an account today. As you'll see from my signature, I've about £3800 to go after a very intensive 18 months of snowballing and clearing debts. I am EXHAUSTED! This is more of a rant than an ask for advice I guess. The remainder of my debt is spread…

Any right to request a record of payments made?
Good afternoon all, Hopefully this a straightforward question ;-) I've recently paid off a large debt on behalf of my mother, over the past 4 years, to be as clear as I can be - the payments were made between myself and Irwin Mitchell solicitors, but were then paid out by IM against an RBS debt in my mother's name. After…

Who owns my debt? Debt company or original lender
If a debt collection agency(MKDP) is named on my CCJ rather than the original loan company(HSBC) does this mean that my debt has been sold to them? I am paying off the £11k CCJ but want to understand the likely outcome of a PPI claim as i have some missold policies.

Personal debts to friends and family
Hey everyone, Bit of a sticky situation that I'm not sure how to cope with. Essentially, I had a rough time of unemployment for the first 6 months of this year. In that time I relied on family and friends to survive. I went on to work a temporary contract for 3 months which allowed me to get by without borrowing further…

Car pcp
Hi I bought my car on pcp last November, it was a good idea at the time, newer car, smaller and more efficient. Since then my partner has had our second child and the car is far too small for our needs. I have spoken to Blackhorse and they told me I would need to buy a new car. After speaking to several garages I was…
