Debt, redundancy and other things...
Hi all - thanks for your kind words on the other thread. I am going freelance (I am a journalist) and am hoping I can earn enough to keep afloat. I have my lodger's money - £350, and regular shifts on a naitonal newspaper on Saturdays, so that should be another £180 a month, or possibly a bit more once I am self-employed…

Feeling disheartened today - anyone else?
Some good and bad things have happened since I last posted. Good: We finally did our budget based on the SOA. It's going to be tight, but as long as H's income remains adequate we might manage (see below). We have decided to cash in some stocks which we had earmarked for income in our old age (in lieu of a pension fund) to…

Can I transfer a part of an overdraft?
Hi all I’ve been accepted for an Alliance& Leicester current account with a 0% overdraft rate – hurrah! Except, they’ve given me an O/D limit £1200 less than I need! OH has applied for an HSBC card to BT our last £900ish onto. Chances are with his track record they'll say no, but if they agree to one, we aren't currently sure what to do. We've been paying off £250 every month, some months a bit more if there's a bit to spare, and with a bonus he's due in March the card should be clear.…
