MBNA now saying we aren't paying enough after originally accepting Payplan offer

We are currently paying into a DMP with Payplan who have been great. The only company we've had problems with is MBNA and they are at it again!
After accepting the original offer and taking our payments for the past 3 months they are now saying that we aren't paying enough and must pay more.
We can't afford to pay more at the moment. What will happen now? What do we do?

Don't panic. Bounce them back to PayPlan who do everything on your behalf. They're just trying it on with you in the hope of getting more money. But if you've done an SOA and pro-rataed payments with your creditors, MBNA can't get any more, not without you starving!
Don't let them scare you into thinking they're the ones in control. I had a long chat with one of my creditors at the weekend, as they're trying to make me pay more than I can afford, and I just kept saying that there are more important and essential things that need to be paid first, and whilst they do need to be paid, they're not at the top of my priority list. They're wanting me to do a managed loan at a higher rate of interest than the debt is currently, which I'm happy to do, but of course I did explain to them that if they wouldn't accept my offer, and they progressed on to debt collection agencies, and god forbid, CCJ, the interest would be frozen anyway. I don't want it to get to that point obviously, but it was the first time I had spoken to a creditor where my heart didn't race and my hands shook. All thanks to MSE!!
Hope that makes you feel a little better!
Don't discuss it with them, tell them to go back to PayPlan.
Good luck.Lightbulb moment - October 2005

I am being nosey, but did MBNA give you any initial grief, when you made the offer. I am interested as my wife is in the same situation and is approaching them with an offer of £85 a month on an £11500 debt.0

hi morveryn, stick to your guns, as paying more than you can afford could mess up your other comitments
saying that we had a similar problem with egg a debt of £11,500. we were going through some personal stuff, and they time and time again point blank refused to accept what we could afford. in the end we defaulted, the debt is frozen, and we pay (through a debt company) them regular payments each month, avoid this if you can, its not great for your credit score, but at least we know where we are
p.s didnt know about payplan then!Obstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal.0 -
MBNA are well known for this tactic. As others have said, keep sending them to payplan, CCCS or whoever. If anyone is doing a DIY dept plan then keep sending them your SOA and the payments you can afford.
A lot of these companies will pass your account to debt collectors eventually anyway and this is an empty threat. Especially as a lot of these debt collectors are just different parts of the same parent company.

Oh yes, loads! They stalled on replying to Payplan, said they'd never received the offer from Payplan and so on. Eventually they agreed and everything settled down (the phone calls, etc) but now its all going to start again- arrghh. :mad:Ebay~ A wretched hive of scum and villainy.0 -

Thanks!
I have contacted MBNA & told them everything must go via Payplan and anything they send me will be referred to Payplan. When I spoke to the nice lady at Payplan she sighed and told me that they are always trying this.
Thank you all for your responses, I feel much better now I know that they are trying it on. :AEbay~ A wretched hive of scum and villainy.0
