How much tax will I pay?
I am thinking of renting my house out and wondered how much tax I would pay. I am a single person paying the normal tax rate with a wage of £21,000 per year. My house rent would be £795 per calendar month netting me £735 per month. As I already pay tax and my tax code is used up, how much of my rent would be used up in tax.

Due to this I have apparently received some of my personal allowance twice. I was…

Proof from HMRC of Tax/NI payments
My partner doesn't need to complete any self assessment and has been paying Tax/NI for many years now - all fine. However, she needs to produce proof to the EU country she was from that shows she was paying Tax/NI in the UK since she came to the UK. To avoid sending off any of her payslips/P60s to another country, can she…

Flat rate VAT & European suppliers
I notice with European vendors selling into the UK, if you tick the box to say that this is a business transaction and the business is VAT registered that the vendors sales tax is removed (namely talking about items/ services supplied electronically) Firstly, is this applicable to those who are on the GB flat rate scheme…

Council Tax Overpayment Refund - 20 years of previous adresses
Hi, I am owed a few hundred pounds from my local (Scottish) council for overpayment of council tax for 2012/2013; they have confirmed this. However, before they pay, they want me to provide details of all my addresses for the past 20 years (I have lived in my property for over 12 years). That appears to be a bit OTT, but…

Advanced PAYE calculator
Evening Does anyone know of an advanced PAYE calculator that also takes into account company cars and other company benefits (such as staff mortgages)? The only ones I can find are basic 20% / 40% off an income with no benefits. Or, if there is nothing, point me in the right direction of working tax out the old fashioned…

Is there any point in knocking myself out?
I'm self employed (sole trader) and completing my 2011-2012 Self Assessment. I only ever have to complete the short return as I don't earn much, so I only have to state three figures - income, expenditure and net profit. Having been quite ill for most of that year and with various domestic crises (worst year of my life,…

Chances of claiming an old tax refund?
Been sorting out my tax affairs. Had a letter from HMRC last time I asked them to check, dated 2000, which states that 97/98 and 98/99 years are fine and am due a refund for 99/2000. At that time, I took it at face value. Since looking at all years to clarify my exact position I realise that this was an error. 97/98 I…
