Cancelled account opening - anything I can do?
I wanted to open an account with first direct, but the application took a lot longer than I expected and they kept asking for more information (they wanted to call my place of work instead of accepting a letter from HR etc, which was difficult in a secure building like mine). I was planning on changing my name due to…

Keep card to maintain score?
Hi, I've got a good score on Experian and I think it's because I've been using credit cards for years but always paying off the balance every month. I now want to simplify things and get rid of the cards, but I'm wondering - could this actually hurt my credit rating over time? i.e. if the only credit I have left is my…

Removing a default from my credit score
Hi, I posted a few weeks ago about getting a negative removed from my report and I was told To contact the creditor directly as I wasn't sure if I had an account with them, I have done that and they said my account with them has been closed. So can anyone help on how I get this removed from my credit file? Also it says I'm…

Credit File and PayPal
Dear all, I made a purchase a couple of days ago online. The website was having issues processing both debit card and credit card payments, so as a consequence I used my PayPal account. Aware that there were no funds in there I moved sufficient funds into my linked current account. The payment has now processed, but was…

Vodafone unable to find delinquent account details
I have a delinquent account with Vodafone (defaulted in 2013) that I'm looking to settle. I have been in contact with them, and at first they could find no record of the account at all. I kept up the calls (my credit report lists the debt as still being held by Vodafone and it's the only 'lead' I had), and they eventually…

Credit search for a pre-approved card
I applied for an MBNA credit card a couple of weeks ago. I did the eligibility checker and it came up that I was preapproved so applied for the card and got accepted. My question is do credit card companies do a credit search if you have been pre-approved for a card? I have checked my report and there is no credit search…

Why would insurance company search my file
Title doesn't quite mean what I want it to mean! Just noticed my car insurer has searched my credit file 10 days ago. Not sure why as insurance isn't due till June next year. I'm pretty sure if I email them they won't know what I'm talking about. Anyone got any ideas?

Conflicting advice - improving my credit rating
Hi all I finished paying off all my debt in February this year via a Christians Against Poverty DMP. Predictably my credit rating is now poor. When I went to my bank (Natwest) for advice, they said the best thing to do was to do nothing and "let it heal" - I know from reading on here that it takes 6 years after a DMP.…

Credit rating drop of 158
This month my credit score on Clearscore has dropped by 158 points. I have had no missed payments. The only application I made was for the iPhone upgrade program, which was unexpectedly rejected and no further applications have been made. I have recently moved address and am in my interest free overdraft in my…

Former tenants' debts
We bought a house in May this year, and have regularly been receiving post for the former tenants. We've reposted dozens with 'return to sender' and 'no forwarding address', but recently, we've had a few that looked 'red' - and if they haven't said 'private and confidential', I have opened a few to find the details of the…

Will my plan affect my credit rating negatively ?
Hello, seeking advice on the below situation, I am very new to all this! I was hoping to move £8,500 debt (5,500 on the CC & 3,000 overdraft, TSB) onto a 0% BT card, and was on Monday, accepted for a virgin money (32 months @ 0.59% fee) card, however only for a balance of £2,200 (still something!). I am wondering if I…

Increased spending on a charge card -> credit score drop?
After getting a couple more credit cards than I needed, I switched all my spending to an AmEx charge card for reward points, insurance and protection. I don't use my debit card or the other CCs anymore, except for cash withdrawal or where AmEx is not accepted. I checked the Experian score I get for free through my…

Impact of switching banks, regards to mortgage application later
Hi all, I’ve been looking but haven’t been able to find a conclusive answer for this- quite possibly there isn’t one. I thought it worth asking to get some advice. My situation is this: I want to switch current accounts to get a cash bonus. However I intend to apply for a mortgage next year (probably in 10-14 months time,…

Linked addresses and default
Is adverse data attached to the name or an address??? The reason I ask is because I should have a default listed on my report but it isn't showing on Experian, equifax, noddle, or clearscore. The address the default was linked to is my maiden name and at an address I lived in some 10 years ago. Both my maiden and married…
