Vodafone unable to find delinquent account details

I have a delinquent account with Vodafone (defaulted in 2013) that I'm looking to settle. I have been in contact with them, and at first they could find no record of the account at all. I kept up the calls (my credit report lists the debt as still being held by Vodafone and it's the only 'lead' I had), and they eventually found me on an old system. They couldn't provide me with any of the account details or a reference number, unfortunately, and when I called back three days later to pay the sum, they are once again unable to find me, despite checking the old system. They advised me to request more details fromm Experian, which I did, only to be told they can't provide such a thing.
I understand that the default is entirely my fault and I'm looking to pay it off in it's entirety, but this is currently proving to be impossible. If anyone could advise me as to what to do now, it would be very much appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Is it possible that Vodafone might have sold the debt-on to someone else, then closed/disposed of the account altogether?

My boss has had a similar issue with Vodafone and it's taken months of calls to them then he wrote a letter of complaint to the ombudsman and it's sorted out. Vodafone changed their systems at some point and it's causing lots of problems.

pogofish: They found the details once so it definitely hasn't been passed on, they've just been unable to since (with only three days between calls), but thanks for the reply.

dfub: Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try sending an email and see if anything comes of that.

Jox: As I understand it, I need to make an SAR before the omdubsman will get involved, but it's definitely a step to consider, thanks for the information.

This will then be dealt with by their executive complaints department and would be sorted within 48 working hours

Hold on. They are supposed to chase you for the debt but you have it the wrong way around. You are chasing them in order to pay it. As far as I'm concerned if they do not have any details of your account then the debt cannot be enforced. Practically the only details they will have is what you've told them.

Experian cannot provide your details? What did you ask for?

Signup to a free Clearscore and Noddle account and see your credit accounts
with account numbers and last payments etc etc.

Or send of £2 for your statutory report.

Some debts are uneconomic to pursue. So simply written off.
