Getting a first credit card?
OK, I foolishly screwed my credit rating up, by applying for quite a few cards in the last few weeks (wanted one for when I'm at work). First tried Egg, got rejected obviously. Natwest (my bank), rejected me because "I forgot to put a annual income on the application form", pretty sure I did, but, anyway, rang them up,…

Does Changing Bank Accounts Affect how Credit Card Companies Rate you?
A common question I have noticed on many credit card applications, and have been asked on those occasions I have asked for a credit limit increase, is how long have I been with my current bank? Presumably the answer to this question goes into their decision making process, and presumably the shorter the length of time you…

RBS Platinum
Just applied and was accepted for the RBS Platinum Card online. It was a snap, much easier than I thought it would be. I'm still waiting to find out whether I paid my CapOne first payment on time, and if they want to be difficult and cane me, I'll move the 3k debt to RBS. I also have 1300 to clear on my Barclaycard, and…

Hi folks, Still waiting for my card to arrive. Somehow I have a feeling that it's been intercepted/lost. I got my PIN letter last Monday saying the card should arrive a few days later. 6 working days now, still no sign of the card. lol.

Serious Thanks Mbna!
Firms like this get bad press sometimes, but I just want to say MBNA have been BRILLIANT :T on two occasions recently. First I got stuffed by a US phone co. who charged me £130 for two 20 minute calls to the UK, then, and more seriously, I stupidly let one of these time share companies who trap you into giving your…

Does Barclaycard do SBT? Plus more advice wanted
I'm intending to move my current account to Alliance and Leicester (thanks Martin), but also have a debt that I want to SBT. Will moving my current account affect my credit application? I've recently applied for CapitalOne and Virgin and been turned down. My next step is to find out why from Equifax, as to my knowledge I…

MBNA again, please advise me what to do
I phoned up MBNA about 3 weeks ago to ask them what the APR was on my card and was horrified to find out it was 24.9%. When I phoned up the loyalty department I was told that they could only reduce that APR to 22.9% and that would be at a cost of £25. Again I was so disgusted at this, I sent a letter (with the kind help of…

MBNA cancellation request gave 22% -> 7.9% rate drop
I rang the freephone MBNA number this morning (0800 062 062) intending to cancel my card as I have cleared the balance. This following Martins advice for improving my credit score and 22% APR is just crazy as a rate. Many menus later I reached a real advisor. "How can I help you" "I'd like to cancel my account" "I'm sorry…

In Credit on CC: Will they transfer to Current Account?
Hello, I have a debt of £2500 on an abbey cc and about 1700 on mint – the promotional rates are coming to an end; so I’ve applied for (and got) a Barclaycard 0% until May 2006 with a £4,600 limit (allowing for a £4140 balance transfer). Barclaycard charge a 2% handling fee (up to £50 max); so (presumably, but very possibly…

M&S credit can't go to current
Junior stoozer has successfully opened Virgin Credit card and balance transfered £4000 to current accoount. Tried the same trick with M&S and they refused to transfer to current account (only other credit cards). On a previous thread a forum member advised transferring to Virgin and then on to current account etc. Virgin…

Is this worth it?
Idea, Don't know if this has been suggest before but... Suppose you have a 0% BT card (no fee, but not SBT card) which charges interest on purchases and a cash back card. Is it worth purchasing on the Cash Back card and then transferring the balance before the payment due date. That way you get the rewards on the purchase,…

Faulty goods on credit cards question?
Dont really know if this is a question for this site, but thought I would ask anyway. If a large item purchased with a credit card ( a car engine) and the engine gets faulty during the guarantee period is there anything that can be done via the credit card company. Furthermore, does the card account still have to be open…

M&S Credit Card - Overseas Call Centres
I've just been informed by M&S Call Centre staff that a message with next months statement will say that cardhodlers personal details will be passed to India. In view of the recent severe breech of security in the USA http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,121485,00.asp Other than closing the account, has anyone out…

Warning - B/Ts to Virgins 9 month 0% may have fees.
There ARE balance transfer fees - but until you apply it seems you don't know if you will get charged. I have looked at the T&Cs and they state in the Summary Box under Other Charges - 2% handling fee (min. £2, max. £35) for credit card cheques and some balance transfers. This is too vague to know if you will be charged or…

Re-applying for 0% card?
Hi everyone We are new to this credit-card balance transferring, and are just after a bit of practical advice: when your 9 months of interest free credit runs out, and you have transferred the balance (from another card, or paid it off) do you then cancel the card immediately? If so, can you apply for the same card, and…
