Young Persons Account
Hi All, I'm in a bit of a dilemma, just trying to help my daughter out with her start in life to finances. She is visually impaired and is currently at a residential college which is around 200 miles away from home. She needs to be able to manage her money more independently, however concern is that if someone skims/uses a…

Moving from Nationwide - Link Accounts
Hi, I'm switching my Nationwide bank account to another provider. I take it the 5% regular saver will also be closed down with it? But the Help to Buy ISA I have will stay open as this is not an account you need to have a current account for?

Funding to get £250 Clydesdale (also Yorkshire/B)
Hi I don't have a spare £1000 to deposit to meet the funding for this, I have seen others suggest 4x £250. My problem is that I'd need to pay in the £250, take it out, pay it in and so on. For £250 it's worth the effort, but, won't that look like money laundering? I don't really want to change where my salary is paid, I've…

Current account switching - debit cards
With the latest £250 offer to switch, I'm very close to signing up. However, I am concerned about what happens to my debit card before/during/after the switch? Obviously I have stuff to buy despite switching banks, at the switch date what happens if I haven't received the new debit card from the new bank? I assume the old…

Took advice to change banks.
I took advice from MSE to change banks but it took nearly 3 months to open an account with M&S Bank. In the end we gave up and never bothered. It's too much hassle. Best advice is don't bother.

Accidently sent £250 to the wrong account.
Hi, probably a common error here, just looking for some reassurance. Basically I ment to send £250 from my HSBC student account to a Santander account but accidentally got the sort code slightly wrong so it went to the wrong Santander account. I have contacted HSBC where they informed me of my error and offered a 20 day…

Another question re switching accounts for bonus
I have a Halifax Reward account that I only use to get the £3.00 a month reward with 2 direct debits for £1.50 a month feeding 2 Tesco savings accounts. Given that I could get a £250 bonus by switching to Clydesdale bank would the fact that I only have 2 £1.50 direct debits and a zero balance preclude me from switching the…

£1,000 for a teenager
Hi, I've been given £1000 to save for my son. He's 14 ATM and I don't want him to be able to access this money until he's 18 or 21, unless its an emergency. Whats the best way to do this? (I'm in Northern Ireland)

What is an active direct debit?
I have 2 credit cards that I use and pay IN FULL by direct debit each month from my Halifax Reward account. However, some months I don't spend on one of the credit cards so therefore there is no money taken. This does not matter at present as I also have a Tesco savings account and have a direct debit funding that. What…

kind of strange one.. ombudsman and bank
okay really strange one here. have had to replies from the ombudsman where i have actually had to point out the illogical statement he provided. one -- the bank never set the customer up for a text alert service -- customer physically provides proof of text messages received from the bank. two -- ombudsman redefines his…

Paid money into bank and it still isn't in my account!
So today I paid money into my nationwide account for the first time as it's a new bank account I've opened. With RBS, I just went in, they used my card and my money went in instantly. This time, they didn't even use the card, they just wrote down the amount I am putting in and some details and I was told that's all fine.…

Where to deposit a load of coins?
I assumed your bank would be the obvious place to deposit coins, but apparently not. We have around £200 of coppers that have been saved up over the past 15 years or so. My mum was told by Nationwide that they only accept up to 5 bags of coins per day per customer. So essentially they were saying to bank all the coins we'd…

Halifax Locked my Account and will not Unlock it
Hi, I have moved overseas, which the bank are aware of and all of my details have been updated to reflect this. Every two weeks they decide to block my account due to transactions being made overseas, despite the transactions being made to the same place from the same IP. The only way for me to contact Halifax is via…

Current account help please
My mother is in early stages dementia. She has a current account with the TSB, and I think her pension must be paid into here (either that or the PO, I don't know for sure). She moved house a couple of years ago and didn't advise the bank at the time. She has now either lost or used all the cheques in her cheque book, and…

Cheques in Maiden Name
Hi, I have recently been successful with reclaiming some PPI charges with MBNA, who my account is now closed with. They will be sending payment by cheque, but the account was in my Maiden Name. I have been with First Direct for over 10 Years, so they will have record of my Maiden Name, and have been sent by Marriage…

Best bank account for 18 year old non-student
Hi - this may be an info gap - for 18 year olds who aren't uni students and not working yet - final year A levels/college like my daughter. She has a Santander mini account she wants to keep for the 3% interest rate and also have a daily current account alongside it. The student accounts with perks seem to all insist on…
