Hi All,
I'm in a bit of a dilemma, just trying to help my daughter out with her start in life to finances. She is visually impaired and is currently at a residential college which is around 200 miles away from home. She needs to be able to manage her money more independently, however concern is that if someone skims/uses a device to read her card she won't see that happening, hence she won't pick up on fraud. (contactless fraud is what I am worried about..I'll be checking her account on a daily basis..and If I notice anything unusual I can then call the bank and act on her behalf to resolve the matter). She will struggle to report this to the bank, as they need her to verify her sort code and account number or just read the long digits on the front of her card. I won't be able to do anything as I am not the account holder. (technically any fraud situation could leave her in a financial dilemma, not ideal when you are young and learning how the world works)
I am wanting her to have an account where she has a contactless card, but at the same times I should have third party access. So I can help her manager this, Is this possible ?
Barclays have issued her with a contactless card, however they are stating that I cannot have 3rd party access until she reaches 18 years of age...They state they do not offer third party access for account which are held by 16/17 years olds. If I want I should get a power of attorney to grant me access, seems excessive.
Any ideas ?
Thank you.

With online accounts, such as Starling Bank's offering, you can block the card within the App and only unlock it when to be utilised. It will also report transactions in real time. If there is an option to send an email or text message with every transaction, there may be an application available to read text messages and emails aloud on her phone, giving her feedback on what is being charged.

Hopefully an option there for you.0 -

Windoz, I attended a Disability College which gave courses to people from all over the UK with all kinds of disabilities, including visual impairment in all degrees. Any students with VI or other problems needing help outside college, were given a 'Trusted Friend' who helped them with problems and accompanied them on trips out.
When my Aspergers grandson was contemplating a degree course in Birmingham, I was told that Universities and Colleges usually all provide a similar service. I would check with them to see what help is available.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

thank you all to have contributed to this post. It's very useful information and as a parent who doesn't have the broad-base knowledge on these matters, it really been appreciated.
Thank you all once again.0
