Trying to maximise return on small savings, can I do this?
Hi, I am trying to maximise a return on a small amount of savings, but also have instant access. I am new to all of this so forgive my naivety. Martin was saying that some current accounts are now giving better rates than savings accounts so I thought I would check it out. I looked through his picks and spotted the Tesco…

Lloyds breaking their own security rules
We are constantly warned about not disclosing security information to unknown phone callers. So yesterday when I got a call purporting to come from Lloyds, who said she needed to ask some security questions, I put the phone down. I tried 1471 and the number had been withheld, confirming my suspicions. Today I rang Lloyds…

Standing Order - First Direct
I had a standing order being completed to another account this morning. It has shown as a transaction in the First Direct (and does not come up as pending, indicating it has been completed?), however it has not reached the other persons account yet. Are Standing Orders supposed to be Faster Payments? If the payment is not…

Can BOS vantage funding be internal?
Hi folks, I have three BOS vantage accounts but only have two up and running currently. I read somewhere that these accounts can be funded internally so I can transfer between my three accounts to fund, and can't see anything in the alt&c saying otherwise - is this correct and ok to do?

Changing bank accounts and mortgage
It is now time for the almost annual rearrangement of our bank accounts, of which there are many. I intend to switch all of them. However, we intend to apply for a mortgage in the next few months. Is it worth waiting until then? I understand it looks better on an application and credit file to have held the same bank…

Club Lloyds accounts
My wife and I have a joint Club Lloyds account. She would like to open an individual account as well to take advantage of the interest. However, when logged on online, only the Classic account comes up as on offer. Does anyone know if this means that she would not get a Club Lloyds account? Or does she have to open a…

bit of a Post Office disaster
I recently applied online for the Post Office Instant Saver Issue 7. Interest rate about 1.2%. The paperwork came though fine with Acc number and sort code and the PO stipulate a choice account activation by either making the initial deposit by cash by taking the forms and the deposit to a main Post Office or - by sending…

Natwest - cash deposit cut-off time
My situation has been resolved to my satisfaction by Natwest but I am interested in others' thoughts as to whether or not I was in the wrong, and perhaps it'll be helpful to others searching in the future. On Friday I went into a branch of Natwest to deposit cash into my account with them. Since I had a large amount in…

TSB Paypal Random Call
Has anyone else had calls from TSB randomly asking about Paypal payments. They were asking about 3 of them (I use paypal a lot for buying things and getting back refunds). It caught me off guard but the caller confirmed they weren't about anything fraudelent and the call was to ask what the paypal payments were for. I…

Kids' Current accounts - 15 and 17 yrs
Has anyone researched this? Looking for current account with debit card and online access. Will be regular £70 paid in each month - and probably out in one case - but if there are any accounts that pay interest on balances left in then so much the better. The eldest hits 17 in 3 or 4 months' time:) and that seems to be the…

Best Current Account Switch Offeres
Hi All, I wanted to switch my secondary current account to one that offers a cash incentive without too many conditions. My secondary account at the moment only receives into it my weekly wage from my PT job which is around £40 and there are no DDs associated with it. What accounts would be suitable to switch to?

Applying for current account on a zero hours contract

Business banking recommendation with good mobile banking and USD account
Hi everyone, I'm looking for recommendation for a business bank account that has good internet/mobile banking and that offers a business currency account. My business is 4 years old and I've been with RBS. I'm not happy with them as I've been told that they do not have a currency account. Also what about foreign exchange…

Switching bonus - old account(s) closed?
Hi there, my first question on here - I think I know the answer but just want to double check before I go ahead. I've opened a First Direct account and intend to claim the switching bonus via a Nationwide flexaccount that has a couple of direct debits set up on it - I understand this account will then close, that's fine.…

Bank of Scotland Classic Account signup error
Hiya, I've got an error the last 3 days I've tried to signup for a Bank Of Scotland Classic account. I fill out the first page, then I get "Unfortunately there has been a technical problem. Another direct debit question
Wonder if any of you know he answer to this one... As the coop needs 4 DDs for its rewards scheme, and I have got 2 tesco savers, would it work to set up 2 DDs on the new account and have the same 2 DDs on the donor account being switched in? Or would these 4 DDs somehow get amalgamated back down to 2? It's only £4/month…

Halifax - Lloyds Payments
I note that transactions between Halifax and Lloyds bank accounts are marked as being instant, rather than, IIRC, the previous "up to two hours" Has anyone found out if that means such payments are no longer treated as satisfying the funding requirements for interest-bearing accounts?
