Business Bank Account
Hi, I'm in the process of setting up a company and am needing now a business bank account. Can someone recommend to me a good company? I'll be contracting so I probably won't need many of the options that a SME or similar would require. Just trying to get an account with minimal charges. I've heard that Cater Allen is a…

Bank account, debit card, with ZERO overdraft
I'm trying to find a basic bank account, with no overdraft at all. It's to be used for monthly spending on non-essentials, so I'll be loading it every month with a budgeted amount. Once it's empty, it's empty, hence I don't want an overdraft at all. It needs to have a normal VISA Debit card with it, and allow joint account…

Please can anyone help me, my two banks are driving me crazy over something that surely shouldn't be this difficult. I've tried to make a card payment, from one bank to another, but the money is stuck somewhere in the middle and both banks are saying it's the others' responsibility. Changing Accounts - Maximise Personal Savings Allowance
I currently have a Santander 123 Account that all our bills are paid through. As a higher rate tax payer I will only attract the lower Personal Savings Allowance of £500. Is there anything wrong (illegal) with my partner opening a similar Santander 123 Account and all the monthly bills being paid through that instead…

Money paid into my account by mistake, what's the law?
Hello, Not sure if this is the correct place to ask this question... Just over £3000 has been paid into my business bank account by mistake it seems. From what I can tell it has come from a company in South Africa. I understand the bank can ask for it back by law, although as it is from overseas would that make a…

Anti-money laundering consultation
There's a consultation out today on changes to AML legislation. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/518016/Action_Plan_for_Anti-Money_Laundering_-_Annex_A.PDF It looks to me as if things are just going to get worse in terms of AML paranoia and banks freezing/closing accounts. There may…

Will I experience problems opening a savings account with cash?
For the past couple of years I have been saving money at home as the savings rates were so low it didn't seem worth putting money away in a bank. However, I now have about £6,000 and I'm a bit worried about having it at home as, although it is is in a safe, it is just one of those fireproof portable ones (which I bought…

Santander 123 switch advice
first post, so quite the newbie.... I am considering moving from NatWest to the Santander 123 account. I have heard a few horror stories using the switching service.... Would I be best placed just opening it as a separate account and moving everything over? Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Santander 123 current account statement date - when is it?
The santander website says that the 123 current account statements do not run on a calendar month basis but instead run from "the date the account was opened/transferred". This matters because you have to pay in your £500 each statement period. So my question is... If I open the account on 17th may and then the transfer…
