Tax Changes - Halifax Reward

Hi All,

So the Halifax Reward has always been 6.25 gross and 5.00 net.

With the new changes to allow 1000.00 tax free savings - does anyone know if Halifax will now be crediting 6.25 or will they change it to 5 gross?

This has been discussed to death already. Please search the forum. In a nutshell: it's a reward, not an interest payment, and there are no changes.

It used to be possible to claim the tax back though. I doubt Halifax or HMRC really knew how to treat it but now it doesn't matter.

It is still possible to claim the tax back.

I know nothing about tax, so please don't tell me to search (I already have), and can't see anything that matches my circumstances.

I don't work (housewife), so don't pay tax, I've just had the Halifax reward annual summary which has deducted tax.
I asked about tax in branch months ago to be told no tax is deducted on these accounts.

Can I fill in a form to claim this back?

Yes - you need to fill in an R40 (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/income-tax-claim-for-repayment-of-tax-deducted-from-savings-and-investments-r40)
