where best to put £20,000
Hi Everyone, My dad is 89 and looks to me to help him with his money. He has 20k in a bond which will mature in Dec, and with rates so poor Im thinking a new current account might work better for him. Santanders 123 looks great at 3% but he lives with me and so has no bills[ie direct debits] coming from his current account…

N&P discontinuing £5 fee on basic account
N&P appear to be making their basic current account fee free from 2014. Is currently waved if used 5 times a month or has a balance of 5k plus. Obviously makes it much more competitive with Metro Bank Also, if you prefer Visa Debit over Debit MasterCard when travelling.

Reward Account
Sorry if something like this has been asked before but I'm just after a quick answer. Basically I was thinking of upgraded my Halifax current account to a reward current account however me and my partner are soon to buy a property and will go for a joint account. I've heard a Halifax reward account is one of the best but…

How to qualify for firstdirect accounts?
Was just notified after a week that I was rejected from opening a firstdirect account due not achieving high enough scores on some of their criteria. I am self employed and can meet their £1000/month requirement. The main problem I can see is that I have several other current accounts and am not a home-owner. Any ideas…

What do i do when my bank won't give me an overdraft?
Hello, I am 26 years old, self employed and have a current account with natwest. At the moment I am experiencing money problems, basically I don't have any. I work on a cash only basis in an indoor market selling vintage clothing and have been doing so for 3 years. The past few months have been increasingly difficult,…

YBS Money Manager and Lloyds & Tesco
Does anyone here use the YBS money manager with a Lloyds account? I've got mine set up with a dozen (!) or so other accounts, but I'm struggling to add Lloyds and Tesco (credit card). YBS help hasn't been very helpful, suggesting I keep trying. (I've tried a handful of times.) So just wondering if anyone has successfully…

Transferring money from a Santander online account.
In a few weeks I shall want to transfer a six figure sum from a Santander 123 account to a third party account already set up in that account to receive payments. The bank the recipient uses accepts faster payments. I have had problems in the past with this sort of online transaction. At the last moment you are told that…

Lloyds and lack of fee waver account transfer
I had a Gold current account with the old LloydsTSB with a fee waiver, ie it had the benefits with no monthly charge. LloydsTSB brought in a monthly charge for the Gold at a later date for new accounts with the older accounts retaining the fee waiver, as long as there was a large balance on the account. My LloydsTSB branch…

Santander avoids responding to complaints about complaints handling
I have a Santander 123 Account. I have limited mobility and poor vision. I asked a question about money transfer via the secure email system. Santander CS is mediocre, so I get a boilerplate answer which does not answer the question. From experience I know that phoning them produces the same sort of unhelpful, too general,…

Are you having problems getting a regular bank account?
A little tip that I have discovered which has worked for me at both Natwest and RBS. The scenario.. 1. Apply for a standard current account without a credit line get REJECTED! 2. Open a basic account and get accepted. You now have a basic account with a limited debit card, no access to cheque book and more importantly for…

first direct account
I rang up first direct today to see if I could still open an account even if I didn't pay £1000 per month. Like people said on here, I would be able to still open an account, I'd just have to pay £10 per month. What I didn't ask was whether the account included the 0% overdraft, and if it does how long does the overdraft…

When do bank card payments leave the account?
Hi When I pay for stuff on my card when does the money leave the account ? I have bought something last week on my debit card and then a direct debit came out which I forgot but the debit card payment came out days later instead of the actual date?! I thought that if I purchased something that the money either came out…

Wages Query: Differing times?
Hey there! There may be a really simple answer to this so I do apologise if the question is silly. With Natwest my wage was always paid in at exactly 3am - Always. I phone N&P today to see if they had a general time that BACS/CHAPS (Not sure how employers pay) go in at and he said...8am. Is this correct as he wasn't sure…

Halifax Switch £100
Hello, Just wondering when the £100 from the Halifax switch service hits the account? A few people I know got it pretty much straight away and others are waiting. Is it after a month or so? Anyone else recently joined Halifax too?

UK bank account for expats
I live in Spain, but have a UK (Lloyds tsb) bank account into which my pension is paid. Is there an alternative bank where overseas transactions/withdrawals are free? (I do not have a UK address, so doubt that credit checks would find me!) DGD

Getting a printed statement out of NatWest?
I signed up to paperless statements on the basis that I could order a printed statement when I wanted one. But having signed into my online banking, I can't see any option to do this. There's a new option to download a PDF of my statement, but that's not good enough as my council wants an original document and states that…

Overdraft being reduced. Advice please.
Hi, newbie here so please bear with me if I'm in the wrong place/being an idiot. Just received a letter about our current account with Nationwide. They are reducing our overdraft from £2500 to £1650. We do reach our limit monthly and sometimes go over, so I can see why they might want to rein us in. We can find the money…
