Lloyds and lack of fee waver account transfer

Options
I had a Gold current account with the old LloydsTSB with a fee waiver, ie it had the benefits with no monthly charge. LloydsTSB brought in a monthly charge for the Gold at a later date for new accounts with the older accounts retaining the fee waiver, as long as there was a large balance on the account.
My LloydsTSB branch (some 70 miles away) was identified as one to become TSB, which is very inconvenient as the nearest to where I live is 10 miles away. The nearest Lloyds, which I've used for the last 25 years, is a 3 minute walk away.
Lloyds are refusing to transfer my fee waiver account back to Lloyds because they say they no longer offer a fee waiver on that type of account. However, those that weren't affected by the transfer still retain the fee waiver on their accounts.
I think I am being unfairly penalised by Lloyds because I didn't bank with a branch that wasn't involved in the transfer to TSB. I could not have foreseen which branches would be transferred.
I'm wondering if anyone else is in a similar position. If I'm alone, I'll just have to 'get used to it', but I suspect I'm not.

Could you stay with TSB and retain the fee-waiver?

What do you actually need a branch for?
  • Yes, I can and I have.
I don't use internet banking and prefer to speak to people, so a local branch is important to me.
As TSB is a different bank to my local Lloyds, I can't pay bills etc locally.
I prefer not to have more than one current account.

    You are tooooo demanding:

    premier account with fee waiver,
local branch 3 minutes walk away, speaking to people (last time I visited a branch was 5 years ago),
one account (what's wrong with having 2 or 10?),
no internet banking (I can't even imagine living without it).

Get real, open a second account with a local branch and make 1-2 online transaction every month or so if needed.

His standards are perhaps only that high because Lloyds has offered all of that on his existing account. It's hard to see how he can be too demanding by simply wanting to retain the account he has been using.

I see your point, but you can't expect everything to last forever. The fee waiver can be withdrawn at any time or even the entire account closed without any reasons. If you want to keep it be prepared to small compromises.

For now you can pay bills by using a cheque at a Lloyds branch.
Why not open a classic account with Lloyds and leave the TSB account as it is because of the fee waiver?

Thanks, that's what I've done. But I then have 2 accounts, whereas I only had one before the de-merger. It's workable, but it's not out of choice - if I'd wanted something like that I'd have done it before the split.

My original post was to see if anyone else was in the same boat and, if so, to try and pressure Lloyds to be reasonable. If they'd removed fee wavers on all 'old' accounts, I would have no grumble, but they haven't.
Looks as if most are happy though.

How would that be fair? You've kept your fee waiver with TSB.

It really isn't unreasonable. You now bank with TSB Bank. Lloyds Bank do not offer this type of account anymore so they cannot open one for you.
