A little tip that I have discovered which has worked for me at both Natwest and RBS.
The scenario..
1. Apply for a standard current account without a credit line get REJECTED!
2. Open a basic account and get accepted. You now have a basic account with a limited debit card, no access to cheque book and more importantly for me unable to take advantage of the cashback reward offers.
3. Straight away opt to upgrade to their "Advantage/Silver account" these cost £10 per month, banks are greedy.. they will not turn down you wanting to pay them £10 so they will accept your application.
4. Ring up the card hotline on the back of your debit card informing them that your other half has been silly and put your card through the wash and isn't working properly.
5. Hey presto a few days later a new debit card arrives without "Basic" stamped over the front of it and without any usage restrictions.
6. Ring the bank up and cancel the benefits package as you have decided you longer require it :A

Might it be possible to do this in half the steps?
1. Open a basic account and get accepted.
2. Straight away opt to upgrade to their "Advantage/Silver account" these cost £10 per month (You should automatically get new non-basic debit card)
3. Ring the bank up and cancel the benefits package as you have decided you longer require it
In fact you could probably ditch the first step and go straight into applying for a Silver account.0 -
they just put you back on the account you started off on.. barclays basic account gives you a full debit card not rbs !!!! electron hidden0
